Meet Stef McLaughlin - Credentialing, Quality and Giving Manager

Meet Stef McLaughlin.png
Paperwork, credentialing and travel logistics can sometimes be such a headache! My role is to ease the pain and guide all our doctors through the process. Hopefully the hospitals, clinics and doctors I work with feel they are well supported by me and the Prescript team.

I’m Stef McLaughlin, Credentialing, Quality and Giving Manager at Prescript Recruitment. I work with regional hospitals and practices across Australia to ensure that doctors start on time.

Find out more about my role and what my colleagues think about me in this video!

What does a Credentialing, Quality and Giving Manager do?

✔️ The management of all credentialing for doctors that work with Prescript; this includes both locum and permanent positions.

✔️ Responsible for ensuring that Prescript’s Quality Standards (PQS) are adhered to as well as those of the healthcare organisations we work with.

✔️ Credentialing for every state and territory, every area health service and the majority of private hospitals.

✔️ Ensuring that the highest standards with credentialing, customer service and recruitment processes are adhered to. It is also the little things that count – I want to provide peace of mind to everyone I work with that they are in safe hands.

✔️ Managing Prescript’s giving goal. Each time we help a doctor with the next step in their career, we also contribute towards medical coverage for people living in poverty overseas. For 2020 and beyond, our giving goal is to provide 1 million days of access to clean water for families in Ethiopia. Find out more here on our Impact Page.

1 Million Days Of Clean Water - Our Giving Goal

1 Million Days.png
Prescript believes that every business has the power to change lives by giving back through its everyday business activities.

Each time we help a doctor with the next step in their career, we also contribute towards improving health outcomes for people living in poverty overseas.

For 2020 and beyond, our giving goal is to provide 1 million days of access to clean water for families in Ethiopia.

You’re part of making it happen by working with Prescript. Thank you.

Our Giving Stories

Here at Prescript Recruitment, we embed giving in what we do to create a habit of doing good.

To reach our goal of 1 million days of access to clean water we link our everyday business activities with our giving goal. This means every time we help a doctor, hospital or practice, we get a bit closer to reaching our giving goal!

Here some examples of our giving stories:

✔️ When we place a doctor in a locum position in regional Australia, we give a year of access to life-saving clean water to a family in Ethiopia.

✔️ When we place a doctor in a permanent position in regional Australia, we give 20 people access to clean water for a year.

✔️ When a doctor refers another doctor to us, we give a year of access to life-saving clean water.

✔️ When a doctor registers as a new candidate with Prescript, we give a year of access to life-saving clean water.

✔️ When a doctor completes a reference for another doctor, we give a month of access to life-saving clean water to families in Ethiopia.

Together, with you, we are making a difference through our everyday work.

Our Giving Goal

1 million days of access to clean water for people living in poverty in rural Ethiopia.

For 2020 and beyond, our giving goal is to provide 1 million days of access to clean water for families living in poverty in rural Ethiopia.

The projects we are supporting fund the construction of hand-dug wells in the Ethiopian province of Tigray. Why is access to clean water so important?

✔️ The provision of clean and hygienic water will reduce a woman’s average daily water collection time. Without a well, women can spend 3 hours every day collecting about 20 litres (for her whole family) of polluted water from sources often shared with defecating livestock.

✔️ Effectively reduces children mortality rate. Up to 20% of children under the age of 5 die from water borne diseases.

✔️ The projects also include training & education in health and sanitation matters as well as family planning.

✔️ A well allows girls to receive a proper education instead of spending their time collecting water.

✔️ The whole family benefit from having access to clean water - meals can be prepared earlier, improved sanitary practices also mean less illness and fewer missed school days.

Our Giving Goal Tracker

Check on our progress towards our goal to provide 1 million days of access to clean water for families living in poverty in rural Ethiopia.

We set our giving goal through our partnership with the Global Giving Business initiative, B1G1.

B1G1 is a social enterprise and non-profit organization with a mission to create a world full of giving. Unlike conventional giving models, B1G1 helps small and medium-sized businesses achieve more social impact by embedding giving activities into everyday business operations and creating unique giving stories. Every business transaction (and as a result, the business’ day-to-day activity) can impact lives.

As a B1G1 Business For Good, we incorporate purpose and meaning to our business through giving. Together, we are making a great difference in the world by doing what we do every day.

Prescript Recruitment is a member of the NSW Health Register of Medical Locum Agencies. To be part of this Register we have undergone a third-party certification audit to demonstrate our compliance with the standards and conditions for the provision of Locum Doctors to NSW Health.

We are pleased to announce that we have had our three-year re-certification audit by Certex (a third-party Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand (JAS-ANZ)-accredited organisation). This means that Prescript will remain on the Register for a further three years.

How To Find The Perfect Doctor For Your Position

Bec - Finding the perf dr.png

One of these strategies is ’Prescript’s Premium Recruitment Solution’, which are blended retained/contingent projects. We carefully choose which positions we work on and our recruitment projects are normally for a 3-month period. We are committed to filling each vacancy.

How To Take The Headache Out Of Paperwork

Our Prescript Quality Standards - PQS 2.png

Hello, I’m Stef McLaughlin – Credentialing, Quality & Giving Manager at Prescript.

Any doctor who has worked in more than two locations (and that’s most people) will agree that it can be such a pain completing various documents, online checks and making sure everything is still valid in the process. I often have conversations with our doctors about these differing requirements, and I know it is a cause for great frustration.

However, there is some credentialing paperwork that is broadly required across most health services. Because of this we have created our own checklist - the Prescript Quality Standards (PQS).

6 Tips For Starting Out As A Locum

Top tips.png

Prescript is perfectly placed to help you find the best jobs available across Australia. Here are a few handy hints to help you get your ideal locum position as quickly as possible.

Staying Connected As a Team

Copy of Our Prescript Quality Standards - PQS (4).png

Every day the team at Prescript is focused on what we do best - helping regional areas find doctors, filling rosters and providing peace of mind. We all care about the work that we do and the impact it has on the regional doctor shortage. These regions are also our communities - Our HQ might be in Sydney, but we are spread far and wide along the coast from the border of NSW/QLD down to Bega Valley in the south, and along to Melbourne and Adelaide.

To stay connected as a team, we get together three times a year to celebrate and acknowledge hard work. We also reflect on how we can provide a better level of service to the doctors, hospitals and practices we partner with.

We recently had a fantastic planning day in Sydney. It was great to be able to catch up and discuss achievements from the previous quarter while setting goals and targets for the new one.

At Prescript, we want to make sure our values flow through everything we do. That’s one reason why every year we set a giving goal through our partnership with the Global Giving Business initiative, B1G1.

Through 2019, our goal is to provide 10,000 days of Medical Care to children in the slums of India. Diseases such as diarrhoea, malaria and rabies are rife. The provision of medical services helps to reduce the mortality rate and allow children to thrive under extreme conditions.

Each quarter in 2019 we link our services to providing 2,500 days of medical support for these children.

You’re part of making it happen by using Prescript.

Prescript’s Giving Update And The Global Goals

At Prescript, we want to make sure our values flow through everything we do. That’s why every year we set a BIG giving goal with the Global Giving Business initiative, Buy1Give1 (B1G1).

Prescript’s current BIG giving goal is to provide 10,000 days of Medical Care to children living in Indian slums.

Your choice to work with Prescript this year has meant that 3,793 days of medical care to children in the slums of India has been provided so far. This could not have been made possible without your support, and we can’t thank you enough. Click below to find out more about Prescript’s Giving Goal on our ‘Impact’ page.

The Global Goals

We also wanted to let you know about how our giving goal is connected with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), also known as the Global Goals.

In 2015, world leaders agreed to 17 goals for a better world by 2030. These goals have the power to end poverty, fight inequality and address the urgency of climate change. Guided by the goals, it is now up to all of us, governments, businesses, civil society and the general public to work together to build a better future for everyone.

B1G1 ties every giving and impact created to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
— B1G1

Goal 3 – Good Health & Well-Being

Prescript is focused on Goal 3, as it relates to our BIG goal of providing 10,000 days of medical care to children in the slums of India.

Millions of children live in slums and are dying of diseases such as diarrhoea, malaria and rabies, which are caused by poor sanitation and overcrowding in shantytowns.

This means that by working and engaging with Prescript, you are not only contributing towards Prescript’s Giving Goal, you are also contributing towards the SDG. Now that’s what we call a big impact.

Click below to find out more about Prescript’s Giving Goal on our ‘Impact’ page.

How You Can Help

You can choose to work with Prescript through one of our many day-to-day business activities (such as confirming a locum assignment, referring another doctor to us or even completing a reference for a colleague).

Your ongoing commitment and support are truly appreciated, and I look forward to giving you our next update!

How To Find The Perfect Doctor For Your Position

Our Prescript Quality Standards - PQS (3).png
Hello, I’m Rebecca Doyle – Senior Recruitment Partner for Radiology at Prescript.

At Prescript, we’re known for helping solve the regional doctor shortage in Australia. We use tailored strategies to help regional communities attract the best applicants for their position, and to assist doctors in finding jobs with ease.

One of these strategies is ’Prescript’s Premium Recruitment Solution’, which are blended retained/contingent projects. We carefully choose which positions we work on and our recruitment projects are normally for a 3-month period. We are committed to filling each vacancy.

It’s great being able to showcase our clients’ vacancies in a visually appealing and clear manner, tailored to suit their specific recruitment challenges.

I thought I’d share with you two recent examples of our Premium Recruitment Solution for some of our Radiology clients.

Example One | Noosa QLD

I visited this location to gain a good understanding of the permanent job position. This opportunity truly is exceptional in what it offers - a fulfilling career, a highly skilled and friendly team and a lifestyle that most can only dream about.

It was wonderful working with Grace Clueit (Prescript’s Marketing Partner) on this role and really bringing it to life, it made me want to move to Noosa myself!

Check out the video we created for this role below:

Noosa Grid image.jpg

Example Two | Regional Victoria

We know how important it is to understand our clients’ vacancies, which is why we always visit the location. I really try and put myself in the doctor’s shoes to help them visualise what life would be like living there.

This attractive permanent role was with an organisation who not only provide a high-quality, comprehensive radiology service, but they support and encourage continued professional development and career progression for their Radiologists. The location offered a great opportunity to enjoy a well-balanced lifestyle and a strong sense of community in a thriving regional city, while only being a two-hour drive from Melbourne’s CBD.

Why Choose Prescript's Premium Recruitment Solution?

Prescript’s Premium Recruitment Solution is blended with both retained and contingent components. We carefully choose which positions we work on and our recruitment projects are normally for a 3-month period. We are committed to filling each vacancy.

Our strategy is a mixture of Baseline Recruitment and Campaign Driven Recruitment.

Baseline Recruitment - targeting active job-seekers. These are doctors who have already thought about new opportunities and actively looking at job boards or responding warmly to direct contact.

Campaign Driven Recruitment - targeting dormant doctors. These are doctors who might be happy in their current role and have not thought about relocating.

We launch the campaign in stages over the three month period. The campaign would be structured to lead up to events. The major selling point of the positions is the chance to work with your hospital/practice. We produce a highly engaging video showcasing all the plus points. This is a tailored, exclusive campaign to attract the right doctor for your role.

6 Tips For Starting Out As A Locum

6 Tips.png

Ever Thought Of Locum Work?

Prescript is perfectly placed to help you find the best jobs available across Australia. Here are a few handy hints to help you get your ideal locum position as quickly as possible:

1. Update Your CV

Make sure you send us an up to date copy of your CV including details of your most recent place of work and any relevant experience to the type of locum work that you are looking for.

Don’t have time or don’t know where to start? Prescript are experts at creating professional and relevant CVs and would be happy to help you with this.

2. Prime Your Referees

Before we can put you forward for a locum position, we will need to obtain at least two, preferably three, references from consultants that you’ve worked with over the past year. If you’ve worked in more than one speciality over the past year, your most recent supervisor and/or supervisors from the speciality that you want to work as a locum in will be the best to use. Please don’t forget to let your referees know that they’ll be contacted by us for references. In our experience, the best references always come from people who knew that they were going to be used as a referee and knew that we were going to call!

3. Organising Your Paperwork

Paperwork and credentialing requirements vary from hospital to hospital (even within the same health district), and generally, you will have to re-submit paperwork to each new hospital that you work at as a locum (yes, even within the same health district!). Some of this paperwork will need to be tackled on a case by case basis but to make your life easier, get hold of the following now as a minimum:

✔️ Qualifications - Primary Degree and Fellowship

✔️ Copy of driving licence and passport

✔️ AHPRA registration

✔️ Evidence of vaccination against; HIV; Hepatitis B; Hepatitis C; Measles, Mumps & Rubella; Varicella; dTpa; as well as evidence of any TB screening, if applicable *

✔️ Your indemnity insurance certificate *

✔️ A national police check dated within the past three years *

✔️ Any Working With Children Checks (WWCC) that you currently hold (additional checks may be required if you take up a locum assignment in a new state/territory) *

*These are dependent on where you work - talk to Prescript for more information.

Prescript has its own quality standards, called PQS - find out more here.

4. Be Ready For More Paperwork Coming Your Way

With every new locum placement, comes a new credentialing requirement. Having access to a printer and scanner is invaluable. Prescript is also a big fan of electronic signatures and using your mobile phone as a scanner, and we will gladly share our tips and tricks with you to make life easier.

5. Get An Australian Business Number (ABN)

Depending on the hospital that you work at as a locum, you may have the option to invoice as a contractor rather than be paid via the hospital payroll. To do this, you will need your own ABN, which is free of charge and can be done online via the Australian Business Register.

6. Check Your Diary

Look at your schedule and decide when you are going to be available for locum work, taking into account adequate rest days between shifts as well as travel time to/from your locum assignment if it’s interstate. Like the sound of a particular job but not sure of the logistics of how to get there? Prescript can talk you through the best itineraries (as well as suggest things to see and do when you’re not at work!)
