We Hit Our Goal! Celebrating 1 Million Days of Clean Water for Families in Ethiopia

I am absolutely thrilled to share that we have reached our giving goal of providing 1 million days of clean water access to communities in Ethiopia!

This is a truly momentous achievement that will have a life-changing impact on countless individuals and families in need. Through a pandemic, civil unrest and many challenges in the region, the team on the ground were courageous and continued with the work of restoring wells and providing access to safe water where possible.

It fills me with immense pride to know that we have reached this goal through Prescript's day-to-day business activities. It is with thanks to our doctors and the health services that we work with that we have achieved this incredible milestone.

Waves of positive impact

Our journey towards this goal started in 2020 after a ‘giving planning session’ with the Prescript team. We put our heads together and collaborated to find a new project that meant something to us all and that was going to make a BIG impact. We chose this particular goal because having access to clean water is a basic right. Access to safe drinking water makes a huge difference to the health and lives of so many people. We wanted to make a big impact here in Australia as well as overseas.

Since then, we have been contributing a portion of our revenue towards the Clean Water for Life project. We are so excited to have achieved this milestone and to have made a positive impact on the lives of families in Ethiopia.

Providing clean water access is one of the most essential and basic human needs, and we are humbled to have been able to contribute towards this cause.

Our partnership with B1G1, a global giving initiative, has made this incredible milestone possible. We are proud to contribute to B1G1's Clean Water for Life project, which aims to provide sustainable access to clean water for families in Ethiopia, one of the most water-stressed countries in the world.

The projects we supported funded the construction of hand-dug wells in the Ethiopian province of Tigray, where access to clean water is a critical issue. The provision of clean and hygienic water has had a significant impact on the lives of families in the region.

How did we do it?

Because of you! It is through the incredible work of our Prescript doctors and healthcare organisations that we have reached this milestone. Prescript links our day-to-day business activities to our giving goal.

When did we donate water?

When a hospital or practice confirmed a doctor in a locum or permanent position in regional Australia ➞ Prescript donated 💧

When a doctor referred another doctor to us ➞ Prescript donated 💧

When a doctor registered as a new candidate with Prescript ➞ Prescript donated 💧

When a doctor completed a reference for another doctor ➞ Prescript donated 💧

When a hospital or practice agreed to work with Prescript on a long-term vacancy ➞ Prescript donated 💧

All the 💧💧 adds up. Thank you and a BIG ⭐️ to everyone who has enabled us to keep giving.

Thanks to the support of our doctors and health services, we are incredibly proud and grateful to have reached our giving goal. We have provided one million days of access to clean water for families living in poverty in rural Ethiopia, reducing the time women spend collecting polluted water, improving children's health outcomes, and enabling girls to receive an education.

We believe that by embedding giving in what we do, we can create a habit of doing good and make a meaningful impact on the world.

As we celebrate this milestone, we remain committed to creating a positive impact through our everyday business activities. Together, we can continue to make a difference and create a better world for all.

I am grateful to be a part of a company that values philanthropy and social responsibility. We are honoured to have been able to make a difference and celebrate this remarkable milestone together. Thank you.

🥇 400,000 Days Of Water Donated! Prescript's Giving Update

We have reached an incredible milestone towards our giving goal of one million days! Four hundred thousand days of access to safe drinking water for rural communities in Ethiopia.
— Stef McLaughlin - Prescript's Giving Manager

For 2021 and beyond, our giving goal is to provide 1 million days of access to clean water to families living in poverty in Tigray, rural Ethiopia.

Reaching over 400,000 days of water donated is another enormous step towards our giving goal, and it feels incredible to be able to give back to those communities that need it the most.

With the recent unrest in Tigray, lives depend on the restoration of the water supplies, now more than ever.

➞ Our giving goal was initially to help with new hand-dug wells, giving communities access to clean water and the tools/expertise to manage the equipment for the future.

➞ Devastatingly, the conflict in the Tigray region has resulted in some 5000 water points, including many village wells, being rendered non-functional

➞ This contribution is to repair damaged wells or build new ones. We are determined to hit our one million days of clean water as quickly as possible and keep going.

How Have We Reached 400k Milestone?

Because of you! It is through the incredible work of our Prescript doctors and healthcare organisations that we have reached this milestone. Prescript links our day to day business activities as a medical recruitment company to our giving goal.

Giving examples:

When a hospital or practice confirms a doctor in a locum or permanent position in regional Australia ➞ Prescript donates 💧

When a doctor refers another doctor to us ➞ Prescript donates 💧

When a doctor registers as a new candidate with Prescript ➞ Prescript donates 💧

When a doctor completes a reference for another doctor ➞ Prescript donates 💧

When a hospital or practice agrees to work with Prescript on a long-term vacancy ➞ Prescript donates 💧

All the 💧💧 adds up. Thank you and a BIG ⭐️ to everyone who has enabled us to keep giving.

About The Water Projects

The projects we are supporting fund the construction of hand-dug wells in the Ethiopian province of Tigray.

➞ During the recent unrest in northern Ethiopia, the project areas have continued to run but thousands of wells and water sources have been deliberately damaged or destroyed.

➞ The water program began during the 1980s civil war and evolved to a point where its low technology techniques were the best for implementation in times of conflict.

➞ Our support will assist with the restoration of damaged water supplies to secured villages.

➞ It is estimated that some 5000 wells in Tigray are now non-functioning because they have either been damaged as a result of the conflict, or communities have no access to spare parts, or there is no technical support.

➞ It is crucial that we help to get these wells back up and running to their previous state. Without a well, women can spend 3 hours every day collecting about 20 litres (for her whole family) of polluted water from sources often shared with defecating livestock.

➞ The whole family benefit from having access to clean water - meals can be prepared earlier, improved sanitary practices also mean less illness and fewer missed school days.

What’s Next?

We’ll keep you updated on Tigray news and any information we receive about wells, their repairs and clean water.

Thank you for being part of the Prescript community and helping us reach our one million days goal.

How To Be Locum Ready For NSW Health - Top Tips

Marcia NSW Health .png
I’m Marcia Beere - Credentialing and Recruitment Partner at Prescript. I used to be a JMO Manager in the ACT and NSW.

I work in the Prescript Recruitment credentialing team with Stef McLaughlin and Lee Kabigting. Our job is to make sure that you are ready to start work on time in an NSW Health locum.

When you are confirmed for an NSW Health locum, the paperwork needed can seem time-consuming and repetitive, especially if you have worked in an NSW Health location before.

As dry as paperwork sounds, it is something I relish! I used to be a JMO Manager, and I am an expert in guiding new and experienced doctors through all the requirements in a fuss-free manner.

If you are thinking:

Why do I need to do more paperwork? I did a locum in another NSW LHD recently.

I agree that a lot of the information seems to be duplicated; however, NSW local health districts function quite independently and, therefore, we need to be able to meet each of their needs. This makes theirs and your life easier. No one wants their pay held up if we aren’t ready, right?

I have listed a few top tips of things that you can prepare beforehand, plus a few ideas to prepare you for when we give you that great call of “you are off to XYZ location to cover their locum placement.”

✓ Your CV

We will request a CV from you at the time you begin working with us; this is kept confidential, and will not be distributed without your agreement. This is very important to us at Prescript - we want you to know that you are in safe hands. We have a suggested format that is clear and easy for hospitals to review; we can help you with this.

✓ References

It may not be necessary to gather references right away, but we will eventually need them to be able to present you for consideration for a locum placement. For NSW, we need to be able to contact three consultant colleagues who have worked with you within the past 12 months. Have a think about who you might ask?

✓ NSW Working with Children Clearance

Working in NSW requires candidates to have an NSW Working with Children Clearance. If you are interstate, it is a two-staged process. An application can be made online, and then you must present in person to a Service NSW Centre. Hospitals will make allowances for you to attend on arrival or before your first shift to complete this process.

✓National Police Checks

NSW will accept a National Police Check that was completed in the last three years (some health services need one every six months). We will ask you to complete an NSW Health specific Criminal Hospital Statutory Declaration, to declare that nothing has changed since your National Police Check was completed.

✓Mandatory Training

This is critical. You often hear how there was no orientation, no handover, access to certain things wasn’t available. This is the first step to help avoid those scenarios. It is all online via HETI (Health Education and Training Institute) and helps to gain insight into systems within NSW Health. You need to allow at least 2 hours to complete the training.

✓Vaccination Requirements

Working in an exposure-prone setting, we want to know that you will be safe and protected. Therefore, there are specific immunisation and vaccination history/evidence that is required for each location. For example, it is important to stay up to date with your Hep B, TB, Flu Shots, Varicella, MMR, dTpa (we will give you the full overview).

✓Second Job Clearance

This is a form you need if you are an NSW Health employee and choosing to locum in another NSW Health LHD. There is a misconception that second job clearance is more about big brother than anything else. Whilst that might seem the case, this isn’t the intent. It is a proactive method used by NSW Health to protect its employees from overworking and is another method of fatigue management.

Prescript - Darlinghurst27507.jpg

What Happens Next?

When you work with Prescript, you will be contacted by either me, Stef or Lee. We will go through all of the NSW Health paperwork with you - some you can choose to do in advance, some you have to do in advance before we can talk about a specific locum position, and the rest we will help you with once a locum is confirmed.

We try and make everything as straightforward as possible. We embrace technology, so nearly all the forms can be done online or with electronic signatures.

Why Choose Prescript?

The good news is that we know what we are doing (and don’t just take my word as a former JMO Manager!). Not only is Prescript on the official NSW Health Register of Medical Locum Agencies; we have also undergone a very thorough third-party certification audit by Certex.

Certex+Excellence+Large.jpg
I look forward to assisting you on your next locum, and helping to alleviate any credentialing-related stress or uncertainty that you may feel!

How To Apply For A Medicare Provider Number Online

Marcia Medicare.png

I’m Marcia Beere, Prescript’s Credentialing and Recruitment Partner. I work with regional hospitals and practices across Australia to ensure doctors start on time. I aim to provide the highest standards with credentialing, customer service, and recruitment processes.

Obtaining provider numbers is a crucial step for most doctors that we work with. A provider number is a unique number issued to eligible doctors for each health service address you work in.

You can’t claim a Medicare benefit until you have a provider number issued for that location. Some of our doctors have lists and lists of provider numbers for all the various places they have worked!

Often provider numbers are needed quickly and on very short notice. This is where PRODA comes in.

What Is PRODA?

PRODA is an online Medicare system that allows you to generate provider numbers without all the paperwork and the best part about it? It is instant! We encourage all of our Prescript doctors to set up accounts, and we are more than happy to help talk you through the process.

Some quick but essential facts:

You can only register one PRODA account in your name.

Your individual PRODA account belongs to you and only you.

Your account doesn’t expire, so you’ll keep the same account even if you change employer (it is, therefore, best to use your personal email address and contact details in case of changes further down the line).

You can add trusted contacts to your account with something called an “RA Number”. This can provide others with limited access to your account and in a secure way. This is helpful because Prescript can generate provider numbers on your behalf.

What Do You Need To Do?

Follow this step by step guide to obtain additional location provider numbers instantly:

Firstly: You will need to register with PRODA

To register, click on this link here

A web page will open with a detailed process of your next steps

Create your login details and personal details

Verify your identity. You will need three pieces of identification (Passport, Driver’s Licence and Medicare card are easiest to verify, but alternative ID is accepted)

Match your existing services to your profile

Secondly: Apply instantly for provider numbers – you can apply or even better, we can do it for you!

Once you have registered, you will then be able to apply instantly online

More good news – we can apply on your behalf! Once you have an account set up, you can link it to ours, and we can securely apply for provider numbers for you

Need help registering an account? I am happy to talk through the process over the phone - 1300 755 498.

PRODA also have a very helpful team who can assist with more technical queries. Their number is 1800 700 199, or you can email proda@servicesaustralia.gov.au

What Does PQS Stand For?

PQS July 2021.png

I’m Stef McLaughlin, Prescript’s Operations, Leadership & Giving Manager. I wanted to give you an overview of PQS and what it means for doctors and hospitals.

Prescript takes great pride in representing our doctors across Australia, NZ and globally. We work with a mix of hospitals, clinics and private practices.

I know that paperwork can be time-consuming and often tedious. We want working with Prescript to be straightforward for both the doctor and for the health service.

Each Australian health service is unique. That means that different checks and paperwork are required for each location/health service we work with. Often the paperwork requested overlaps – understandably, this can be a significant cause of frustration for some of our doctors!

Because of this, I introduced PQS (Prescript Quality Standards). This is a set of paperwork standards and background checks that we use as a foundation for each doctor we work with. I want everyone we work with to have peace of mind that each Prescript doctor has met a consistent level of checks.

WHAT IS PART OF OUR PQS CHECKLIST?

PQS Prescript Interview Report - with one of our medical recruitment partners

PQS Registered with Prescript as a candidate

PQS Answered disclosure questions

PQS Medical Board Registration checked

PQS Shared a copy of driving licence and passport

PQS Provided proof of qualifications - Primary Degree and Fellowship

PQS CV updated for recent work history

PQS Right to work checked (citizenship and visas)

PQS Google keyword search

PQS Three reference reports (two as a minimum)

WHAT IS NOT PART OF OUR PQS CHECKLIST?

[These can be location specific and requested by the health service]

 Working with children checks

 Police clearance reports

 Immunisation/vaccination evidence

Since implementing PQS, it has made everyone’s life easier. Our doctors can rely on PQS to help their applications stand out, as well as minimise duplication of paperwork.
