This week I’d love to share my own experience of a trip to Tasmania I took at the end of June – To summarise, it was FANTASTIC!
We travelled to Hobart and met up, as a Prescript team catch up. This wonderful, compact city played host to a whole array of fun and fascinating events and visits.
Yes, it was mid-winter but with the lovely, cosy fires, beautifully heated places to go and the enjoyment of getting dressed up warmly outdoors, it was fantastic – and this is from someone who doesn’t like being cold.
I can 100% recommend Tasmania. Here are some reasons why:
1. Hobart has some of the most incredible restaurants just in its main centre. The historic city attracts all manner of restauranteurs who just love using the best produce Tassie has to offer – and we all benefit from a truly world-class, unique range of dining experiences.
The other main centres in Tasmania that offer locum weeks also have incredible spots to enjoy the local cuisine. Don’t miss out on Launceston, Devonport and Burnie’s own food scene.
2. The welcome from the locals is like no other. You’re always given a warm-welcome and the places to come for locums is included in this – it’s just got a fantastic community feel and people who really care about one another, and are extremely grateful and happy to embrace visiting doctors to their hospitals and sites.
3. The scenery, fun trips and even little city walks to enjoy – I know, it sounds like a cliché almost, to say how stunning Tasmania is, but it REALLY is! I’ve visited Tasmania several times and always feel there is so much more to see and explore. This time we experienced some of Hobart’s top adventures, as well as enjoying a walk around the famous Saturday morning Salamanca Market that is ideally situated in the historic centre, beside the gorgeous old marina.
By choosing a locum in Tasmania, you’ll not only be helping out in fantastic communities that need your help, but also, you will have the opportunity to experience and explore some of Australia’s richest cultural, scenic and culinary attractions.
There are a number of different companies and hospitals to choose from making it easy to find a good match for your individual interests.
Prescript’s team will help you book into locums in Tasmania and are there every step of the way to make sure you’re well looked after, enjoy your stay and are paid promptly.

*NOTE – if you may be thinking of what it’s like to live in Tasmania, please also get in touch. I have permanent role options, long term locums and hybrid roles that are pretty tempting if you’re looking for the perfect work-life balance. An initial locum is a good place to start.

Hobart Location Information
★ Here’s a special snapshot of Prescript’s Hobart Adventures and Activities - Highly recommended by Nicola Speer!
Head up to Mt Wellington for a trip, you can take a small tour bus which is really easy and fun, or drive up yourself.
Take a boat trip from the marina in Hobart, around the harbour, out to Bruny Island and all around the most fascinating sites. There is so much to learn about the history and geology of this ancient land.
Visit MONA – the Museum of Old and New Art. What an exceptional place! Go via their ferry and spend the day there. Great wineries and restaurants on site.
Check out Hobart’s restaurants, cafés and tiny bars. There are so many great ones to choose from. We loved Peppina, Institute Polaire and T42 but there are SO many more!

At Prescript we’re known for helping solve the regional doctor shortage in Australia.
Every day we’re focused on two clear outcomes - Helping hospitals find doctors that create departments and clinics that run better, have more capacity and less stress. And placing Doctors in jobs that leave them feeling highly valued, rewarded and, most importantly, enjoying what they do.
We believe that when we get these two crucial things right, it has a huge impact on the regional doctor shortage and the healthcare of communities across Australia.
