The Position
Role: ED Senior Resident Medical Officer (SRMO) – Locum (ongoing contract)
Location: Calvary Mater Newcastle, Waratah, NSW – a modern public hospital and the major cancer care and ICU centre for Hunter New England Local Health District (~195 beds). It delivers 24/7 emergency care, intensive care, haematology, oncology, toxicology, and palliative services.
You’ll be part of a busy Emergency Department with > 40,000 presentations per year, supported by:
A 14‑bed ED
A 12‑bed Emergency Short Stay Unit
Strong registrar and SMO supervision
Embedded research partnerships with the Hunter Medical Research Institute and the University of Newcastle
This hospital has a strong training culture, accredited for 12‑month teaching rotations, and is active in ED‑led clinical research projects (including mental health pathways, alcohol harm reduction and aged care in emergency care).

Example shifts include:
4–9 August 2025 (Night & Evening) @ $160/hr
25–31 August 2025 (Night) @ $160/hr
1–8 September 2025 (Mixed shifts) @ $130–160/hr
22–29 September 2025 (Night) @ $160/hr
6–12 October 2025 (Night) @ $160/hr
Shift times: 0700–1700, 1000–2000, 1300–2300, 2200–0800.
Day/evening rosters include registrars, CMOs, SRMOs, and interns; night shifts include a Registrar in Charge, a junior doctor, and an on-call Specialist overnight.
