Central Queensland Health is seeking an Executive Director Medical Services who can bring clarity, direction, and vision to one of the state’s most important regional health services. The Role

As Executive Director Medical Services, you will provide leadership, governance, and strategic oversight across a substantial medical workforce of more than 458 FTE spanning hospitals, regional centres, and remote facilities.

Your remit covers the full medical workforce lifecycle — recruitment, training, education, development, and retention — while also strengthening partnerships across government, primary care, and private sector stakeholders. You will drive organisation-wide transformation, quality improvement, and service excellence.

This is a permanent position, based in Rockhampton, with the option to live on the nearby coast at Yeppoon and enjoy an easy commute.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a large regional medical workforce across 20+ facilities

  • Oversee medical recruitment, performance, training, development, and succession planning

  • Build strong partnerships across HHSs, Department of Health, PHNs, and private providers

  • Provide strategic advice to the Executive Leadership Team

  • Shape organisation-wide safety, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives

  • Support transformation across service delivery, clinical governance, and workforce optimisation

Remuneration & Benefits

The package reflects the seniority and impact of the role:

  • Total remuneration: $353,788 – $543,581 p.a. (salary, super, allowances, leave loading)

  • Attraction & Retention Incentive Allowance: up to 50% of base salary

  • Professional Development Leave: 3.6 weeks + $21,500 annual PD allowance

Who We’re Looking For

You will be a senior medical leader with strong clinical grounding and proven experience overseeing large, complex teams.

Requirements:

  • Current AHPRA registration

  • Fellowship with an Australian medical specialist college

  • Executive-level leadership experience in a regional, multi-facility environment

  • Demonstrated strategic workforce planning, operational leadership, and cultural transformation capability

  • Strong clinical understanding of services typically delivered in medium-sized regional hospitals

  • Ability to build trust, bring cohesion, and lead with purpose
