This is a rare, high-earning Emergency Department In-Charge locum in Broken Hill, with an approved rate of $350 per hour and the site ready to move quickly.
Broken Hill Health Service is seeking a senior ED doctor to step into an afternoon In-Charge role, providing clinical leadership and oversight of ED flow during a busy period. While FACEMs are strongly preferred, the service will also consider highly experienced senior ED SMOs or ED Registrars with proven in-charge capability.
This is an ideal role for senior emergency clinicians who enjoy leadership, autonomy and short, high-impact locum blocks.
The Emergency Department
Broken Hill is a major regional referral site for far-west NSW, delivering essential emergency care to a large and diverse catchment. The ED is well established, with experienced nursing staff and clear escalation pathways.
Importantly, the department structure is designed to support the In-Charge doctor:
Another senior doctor is rostered until 1800
A Night Doctor commences at 21:45, significantly reducing overnight pressure
This allows the In-Charge role to focus on flow, decision-making and leadership, rather than being stretched thin
Doctors familiar with regional EDs will recognise this as a thoughtfully staffed, practical setup.

Rate: $350 per hour (approved increased rate)

This is a short, defined block, ideal for FACEMs or senior ED doctors with limited availability who want strong remuneration without a long commitment.
