Prescript Recruitment is seeking experienced Senior Rural Generalists and FACEMs for flexible FIFO locum placements at Katherine Hospital in the Northern Territory.

The initial requirement is from 10–28 August 2026, with further opportunities expected through to January 2027.

This is an excellent opportunity for senior Emergency Medicine clinicians looking for meaningful regional work, an attractive daily rate and the flexibility to select blocks that fit around existing commitments.

The Role

You will work in a senior Emergency Medicine Coordinator role, providing clinical leadership and supervision within Katherine Hospital’s Emergency Department.

The position involves managing a broad range of adult, paediatric and neonatal presentations while supporting junior doctors and working closely with nursing, inpatient and retrieval teams.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing senior clinical decision-making within the Emergency Department

  • Managing acute and critically unwell patients

  • Supervising and supporting junior medical staff

  • Coordinating patient care, escalation and transfers

  • Managing adult, paediatric and neonatal emergencies

  • Supporting early stabilisation and resuscitation

  • Working collaboratively with the wider hospital team

This role is best suited to a confident senior clinician who is comfortable working with a high level of autonomy in a regional hospital environment.

Available Dates

Current confirmed block:

  • 10–28 August 2026

Further FIFO opportunities are expected from August 2026 through to January 2027.

Flexible block lengths may be considered depending on your availability and the hospital roster.

Katherine Hospital is an important regional hospital supporting Katherine and communities throughout the wider Big Rivers region.

The Emergency Department manages a varied regional case mix, including adult, paediatric and neonatal presentations. Senior doctors play a key role in clinical leadership, stabilisation, supervision and coordinating transfers when higher-level care is required.

The position offers the opportunity to use a broad range of Emergency Medicine and Rural Generalist skills while making a genuine contribution to healthcare delivery in regional and remote Northern Territory communities.

What We Require

Suitable applicants may include:

  • FACEM-qualified Emergency Medicine Consultants

  • FACRRM-qualified Rural Generalists with Advanced Skills in Emergency Medicine

  • Rural Generalists with extensive senior Emergency Department experience

  • Senior Emergency Practitioners working at fellow-equivalent level

  • Doctors with appropriate ACEM Emergency Medicine qualifications and senior supervisory experience

You will also need to demonstrate confidence in:

  • Managing adult, paediatric and neonatal emergencies

  • Early paediatric and neonatal resuscitation

  • Providing senior supervision and clinical leadership

  • Managing non-invasive ventilation independently

  • Treating critically unwell patients

  • Initiating vasopressor support

  • Arterial line insertion

  • Working effectively within a regional hospital environment
