GP Opportunity – Make an Impact in Custodial Health at Dame Phyllis Frost Centre

Melbourne’s western metro area

$180/hr $200/hr

Are you a GP (Fellow or Non-Fellow) looking for a role where your work has tangible, lasting impact? Join Western Health’s Custodial Health team at the Dame Phyllis Frost Centre (DPFC) – Victoria’s only women’s maximum-security prison – and be part of a service delivering care that is person-centred, culturally safe, and respectful. This is a role where your clinical expertise directly improves health outcomes and rehabilitation opportunities for women in custody.

The Position

As part of Western Health’s Custodial Health division, you will:

  • Provide primary care including general health, chronic disease management, mental health, preventative care, and (if qualified) MATOD prescribing.

  • Work within a multidisciplinary care model alongside 24/7 nursing staff, allied health, Aboriginal liaison, addiction, and population health teams.

  • Rotate between clinic shifts (8am–5pm or 9am–3/4pm) and reception shifts for new arrivals (11am–7pm) – always with another GP on site.

  • Operate in a secure, structured environment with strong custodial and clinical leadership.

This role is part of Western Health’s commitment to raising standards in correctional healthcare – a service they took over in July 2023 to deliver more consistent, high-quality care across the Victorian prison system. The DPFC service recently earned full accreditation under the National Safety & Quality Primary Healthcare Standards.
