Choose individual shifts or build a regular locum schedule across correctional health services in Melbourne, Geelong and regional Victoria. Rates up to $200/hour, with opportunities from August through to October 2026.
For GPs interested in meaningful clinical work outside traditional general practice, these locum opportunities offer flexibility, strong hourly rates and the chance to work with patients who often have complex and unmet healthcare needs.
The Opportunity
Prescript is working across a number of Victorian correctional health services, with shifts currently available across Melbourne’s west, the Geelong region and western Victoria.
Most shifts are weekday daytime hours, generally between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, depending on the location.
You can choose occasional dates around your existing commitments or speak with us about putting together a more substantial run of work.
Rates
Rates depend on your experience and qualifications:
From $150/hour
Experienced correctional health candidates – up to $180/hour
MATOD-endorsed GPs – $180/hour
FRACGP – $200/hour
For suitable doctors interested in gaining MATOD endorsement, the RACGP MATOD course can be funded as an incentive.

Why Correctional Health?
Correctional health gives GPs the opportunity to work with a broad range of presentations, including chronic disease, mental health, substance-use medicine and general primary care.
It can be a rewarding way to use your GP skills in a setting where good primary healthcare can make a significant difference.
You will also have the flexibility to choose the locations and dates that work around your existing practice or locum commitments.
What We’re Looking For
We’d like to hear from GPs with:
Current AHPRA registration
General practice or broader primary-care experience
FRACGP highly regarded
MATOD endorsement advantageous but not essential
An interest in correctional and complex-care medicine
Previous correctional health experience is welcome, but opportunities may also suit doctors looking to enter this area of practice.
Perfectly Placed For Doctors
You don’t need to commit to every available date.
Tell us where you can travel, when you’re available and how much work you’d like, and Prescript can help identify the shifts that fit.
