This is a rewarding opportunity for an experienced GP who wants to experience genuine remote medicine in the Kimberley while maintaining a structured Monday–Friday working week.

The Opportunity
This role has a strong Aboriginal health and remote community focus.
Depending on current service requirements, opportunities may be available across Community GP, Chronic Disease GP and hospital-based GP services.
You’ll work alongside experienced doctors, nurses, Aboriginal Liaison Officers, Nurse Practitioners and other health professionals with strong local knowledge and experience in remote healthcare.
Community GP
The Community GP role combines broad primary healthcare with regular outreach to remote Aboriginal communities surrounding Fitzroy Crossing.
A typical week may include:
Monday: Nookanbah community
Tuesday: RFDS-supported community visit
Wednesday: Wankatjungka community
Thursday: Bayulu community
Friday: Administration at Fitzroy Crossing Community Health
Outreach may also include Djugerari, Millijiddee, Koorabye and other surrounding communities depending on service requirements.
Where seasonal conditions affect road access, alternative transport arrangements may be made to ensure communities can continue to receive care.
This is an opportunity to build genuine relationships with patients, families and communities while experiencing a side of general practice that is very different from metropolitan medicine.
Chronic Disease GP
Based in Fitzroy Crossing, the Chronic Disease GP provides comprehensive care for patients living with complex and often interconnected chronic conditions.
Clinical presentations may include:
Diabetes
Chronic kidney disease
Ischaemic heart disease
Rheumatic heart disease
Other complex chronic and preventative health needs
You’ll work as part of a multidisciplinary team supporting continuity of care and long-term health outcomes.
Hospital-Based GP
The hospital-based GP role is based at Fitzroy Crossing Hospital, a 12-bed facility supporting the Fitzroy Valley.
The role includes:
Walk-in general practice
Supporting Emergency Department presentations
Ward and inpatient care
Daily toolbox meetings
Medical team ward rounds
Hours are generally 8:00 am–5:00 pm, Monday to Friday, with no on-call, after-hours or weekend commitment.
Clinical support is available 24/7.
Aboriginal Health & Community Care
Much of the healthcare delivered across the Fitzroy Valley supports Aboriginal patients, families and communities.
Doctors need to bring not only strong generalist clinical skills, but also cultural awareness, humility and an understanding that effective remote healthcare is built on trust, continuity and relationships with community.
You’ll work alongside health professionals with established local knowledge, including Aboriginal Liaison Officers, helping you understand the cultural and community context in which care is delivered.
For doctors with an interest in Aboriginal health, this is an opportunity to contribute meaningfully while gaining valuable experience in a genuinely remote setting.

About You
We would particularly like to hear from GPs who have:
Current AHPRA registration
Extensive generalist GP experience
Rural or remote healthcare experience
Experience in, or a strong understanding of, Aboriginal health
Current relevant emergency medicine CME qualifications
Confidence working within a multidisciplinary environment
Strong cultural awareness
A genuine interest in providing respectful, high-quality care in remote communities
Experience in Aboriginal health is highly valued. Just as importantly, doctors need to approach the placement with adaptability, cultural humility and a willingness to listen and learn.
