At Prescript Recruitment, we place doctors where they’re needed most—and where they’ll make the biggest difference.
This locum opportunity on Palm Island is more than a clinical role—it’s a chance to work at the heart of a remote Aboriginal community, providing critical care in a setting where your presence is deeply valued.
Known as Bwgcolman, Palm Island lies 65 kilometres northeast of Townsville and is home to more than 40 Indigenous clan groups. It’s a culturally rich community with a strong sense of identity—and like many remote communities, it faces complex health challenges.
Here, your work will directly support continuity of care, improve access, and help shape long-term outcomes.
The Position
We are seeking an experienced Rural Generalist (FACRRM or FRACGP) with solid emergency medicine skills to join the team at Joyce Palmer Health Service (JPHS). Working alongside local services including the Palm Island Community Company (PICC)—an Aboriginal Medical Service—you’ll be part of a collaborative health response supporting the community across acute and primary care needs.
Key service details:
1–2 bed Emergency Department, averaging 22 presentations per day
11-bed inpatient ward, average occupancy of six
10-hour shifts with fatigue breaks provided
On-call typically 1 in 2 or 1 in 3
This is a broad-scope role in a setting that calls for flexibility, confidence, and a strong commitment to culturally safe care.
Dates Available
30 June – 28 December 2025
Minimum placement: 2 weeks
Multiple blocks available throughout the period
What’s Provided
We handle all the details so you can focus on your work:
Flights, accommodation, and a vehicle provided for the duration of your placement
Daily rate negotiable, based on experience
Full support from our credentialing and logistics team
Early access to opportunities through our partnerships with regional and Aboriginal health services
What We’re Looking For
Fellowship with ACRRM or RACGP
Current ALS2 (or equivalent)
Emergency and inpatient experience in rural or remote settings
A collaborative, respectful approach to working with Aboriginal communities and multidisciplinary teams
Why It Matters
Your skills and presence will support critical healthcare delivery in a region that relies on visiting doctors to keep services running. This is the kind of work that safeguards continuity of care and upholds community trust in local health services.
You’ll leave a meaningful impact—and you’ll likely want to return.
