Correctional Health GP Locum Roles Across Regional Victoria — Prescript Recruitment

Correctional Health GP Locum Roles Across Regional Victoria

At Prescript Recruitment, we connect doctors with work that matters—roles where their clinical skills are valued and their presence makes a genuine difference. Correctional health is one such space.

We’re currently recruiting GPs for several short-term, well-supported locum roles within correctional facilities across regional Victoria. These are ideal for doctors who want meaningful work without the complexity—offering clear hours, consistent teams, and the ability to choose your dates.

Whether you’re Non-VR, VR, or an OSTP-approved prescriber, we’ll make the process seamless and tailored to you.

The Position

We are seeking GPs to provide primary healthcare to patients in structured, multidisciplinary settings. You’ll work alongside experienced clinicians, nurses, and support staff to deliver general practice care in secure environments.

These roles are based at correctional centres located in:

  • Southwest of Melbourne (approximately 45 minutes from the CBD)

  • Western Victoria (near Beaufort, about 2 hours from Melbourne)

  • Central Victoria (Castlemaine region, around 90 minutes from Melbourne)

No prior experience in correctional health is required. Just bring your clinical capability, good communication, and a commitment to delivering quality care where it’s needed most.

Dates Available

Shifts are available from late March through to the end of May, with flexibility across weekdays and weekends.

Let us know your availability and we’ll align it with suitable dates. Many locations also offer flexibility around which day you attend, making it easier to slot into your existing calendar.

Benefits Provided

  • Strong hourly rates

    • $150/hour – Medical Officer

    • $180/hour – Senior Medical Officer (OSTP-approved)

    • $200–220/hour – Weekend rates

  • Mileage reimbursed at 88 cents/km for regional travel

  • Support with everything – Credentialing, compliance, and logistics managed by your dedicated Prescript team

  • Consistent hours – Most shifts run 9:00am–5:00pm

  • A clear sense of purpose – Deliver care to people who often lack regular access to medical support

What We Require From You

  • Current AHPRA registration

  • Fellowship of the RACGP (preferred but not essential)

  • OSTP approval required for some dates (we can assist if needed)

  • Medical indemnity insurance

  • A minimum of five years post-graduate experience

  • Strong communication and the ability to work within a team

  • Experience in mental health, emergency care, or drug and alcohol medicine is a bonus—but not required
