This is an exciting opportunity for Rural Generalists (FACRRM or FRACGP with Emergency Medicine experience) to work in a specialist-led private emergency department in Hobart.

Unlike overstretched public EDs, this modern, well-supported emergency centre allows you to deliver high-quality patient care without overcrowding, excessive admin, or long wait times. With a highly experienced nursing team, direct access to specialists, and premium locum rates, this role offers the perfect balance of rewarding clinical work and flexibility.

With accommodation, travel support, and flexible shift options, this is a fantastic opportunity to gain private ED experience in a professional and patient-focused environment.

The Positions

  • Location: Private emergency department in Hobart

  • Rate: $250 - $280 per hour - paid via invoice

  • Role: Rural Generalist (GP with ED experience), managing a mix of adult and paediatric presentations

  • Support:

    • Experienced emergency nurses providing strong clinical support

    • ICU Registrar support on night shifts

    • Direct referral access to medical and surgical specialists

  • Shift Times:

    • 07:30 – 15:00 (8 hours)

    • 10:00 – 18:00 (8 hours)

    • 14:30 – 22:00 (7.5 hours)

    • 15:00 – 23:00 (8 hours)

    • 22:00 – 08:00 (8 hours, with ward calls if required)

  • On-Call Requirements: There is no on-call requirement for this role.

About the Emergency Department

This specialist-led private ED provides efficient, patient-centred emergency care with a focus on quality over quantity. The facility features:

  • Cutting-edge medical technology, ensuring accurate and timely diagnosis

  • Onsite access to private pathology and radiology services, including X-ray, ultrasound, CT, and MRI

  • Seamless admission pathways with immediate access to medical and surgical specialists

  • Comprehensive cardiac and chest pain services, including on-site angiography

  • Level III Intensive Care and Coronary Care Units

With fewer patients per shift, doctors can work at a sustainable pace, delivering high-quality care in a structured, well-supported environment.

Dates Available – May

Doctors can select shifts across May 1 – May 31, with the flexibility to work as little as a two-day block or extend longer if preferred.

What We Require From You

  • Fellowship of ACRRM (FACRRM) or RACGP (FRACGP)
