We are looking for ED Senior Medical Officers (SMOs) and GP Rural Generalists to provide exceptional care at Kalgoorlie Health Campus—a 106-bed facility equipped to handle everything from fast-track cases to critical emergencies. With 16 treatment bays, a special care unit, and state-of-the-art medical imaging services. You’ll work alongside a dynamic team of fellow ED SMOs and junior doctors, making a tangible impact on a diverse community of around 55,000 people.

How to Get There from Perth:
Getting to Kalgoorlie is easy and offers a variety of scenic options:

  • By Road: Embark on a 6.5-hour drive along the Great Eastern Highway, enjoying the breathtaking landscape of Western Australia's Golden Outback.

  • By Air: A quick one-hour flight from Perth lands you right in the heart of Kalgoorlie, saving you time and giving you a bird’s-eye view of the vast outback.

  • By Train: Opt for a seven-hour train journey and experience the iconic Prospector train ride, known for its comfort and stunning views along the way.

The emergency department alone handles over 99,000 patient visits annually, ensuring a fast-paced and dynamic working environment.

As a teaching hospital affiliated with James Cook University (JCU), Mackay Base Hospital fosters an environment of continuous learning and professional growth. It is accredited for training with both the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (ACEM) and the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM), making it an ideal place for doctors looking to advance their careers.

Prescript is pleased to present multiple locum opportunities for Rural Generalists in various regional facilities within Northern Queensland This is your chance to earn competitive rates while contributing to healthcare in diverse and vibrant communities.

The Positions

Roles are available across six different sites, and the positions needed are:

  • Rural Generalists with FRACGP and ED experience

  • Rural Generalists with FRACGP and strong ED experience, preferably with advanced Obstetrics or Anaesthetics.

  • Rural Generalists with FACRRM/FRACGP and ED experience, or advanced skills in Obstetrics or Anaesthetics.

The six-hospital profiles include:

  • Indigenous community hospital provides 24-hour emergency and accident care.

  • Level 2 rural hospital, and the workload includes ED, GP services and inpatient care

  • 40-bed level 3 general hospital servicing some 20,000 residents and visitors to the district, including a large Indigenous population

  • 49-bed level 3 general hospital, servicing some 35,000 residents, including a significant Indigenous population.     

  • The hospital has an ED, 11 Aged Care beds, 10 Acute beds and four clinic rooms.

  • A hospital with a brand-new ED building sees up to 70 patients daily.
