How To Find The Perfect Doctor For Your Position

Our Prescript Quality Standards - PQS (3).png
Hello, I’m Rebecca Doyle – Senior Recruitment Partner for Radiology at Prescript.

At Prescript, we’re known for helping solve the regional doctor shortage in Australia. We use tailored strategies to help regional communities attract the best applicants for their position, and to assist doctors in finding jobs with ease.

One of these strategies is ’Prescript’s Premium Recruitment Solution’, which are blended retained/contingent projects. We carefully choose which positions we work on and our recruitment projects are normally for a 3-month period. We are committed to filling each vacancy.

It’s great being able to showcase our clients’ vacancies in a visually appealing and clear manner, tailored to suit their specific recruitment challenges.

I thought I’d share with you two recent examples of our Premium Recruitment Solution for some of our Radiology clients.

Example One | Noosa QLD

I visited this location to gain a good understanding of the permanent job position. This opportunity truly is exceptional in what it offers - a fulfilling career, a highly skilled and friendly team and a lifestyle that most can only dream about.

It was wonderful working with Grace Clueit (Prescript’s Marketing Partner) on this role and really bringing it to life, it made me want to move to Noosa myself!

Check out the video we created for this role below:

Noosa Grid image.jpg

Example Two | Regional Victoria

We know how important it is to understand our clients’ vacancies, which is why we always visit the location. I really try and put myself in the doctor’s shoes to help them visualise what life would be like living there.

This attractive permanent role was with an organisation who not only provide a high-quality, comprehensive radiology service, but they support and encourage continued professional development and career progression for their Radiologists. The location offered a great opportunity to enjoy a well-balanced lifestyle and a strong sense of community in a thriving regional city, while only being a two-hour drive from Melbourne’s CBD.

Check out the video we created for this role below:

Why Choose Prescript's Premium Recruitment Solution?

Prescript’s Premium Recruitment Solution is blended with both retained and contingent components. We carefully choose which positions we work on and our recruitment projects are normally for a 3-month period. We are committed to filling each vacancy.

Our strategy is a mixture of Baseline Recruitment and Campaign Driven Recruitment.

Baseline Recruitment - targeting active job-seekers. These are doctors who have already thought about new opportunities and actively looking at job boards or responding warmly to direct contact.

Campaign Driven Recruitment - targeting dormant doctors. These are doctors who might be happy in their current role and have not thought about relocating.

We launch the campaign in stages over the three month period. The campaign would be structured to lead up to events. The major selling point of the positions is the chance to work with your hospital/practice. We produce a highly engaging video showcasing all the plus points. This is a tailored, exclusive campaign to attract the right doctor for your role.

Eating Well When Away On A Locum

Alternatives To Always Eating Out

When we’re away from home for a period of time for work or holiday; having every meal at a restaurant, nice as it can be, sometimes wears a bit thin. Especially when you want to eat well, stay healthy and still enjoy making a few things yourself, rather than eating out all the time. If there are limited kitchen facilities and equipment, this can be a little challenging.

Here are some ideas for easy meals to have whilst ‘on the road’. They’re aimed at keeping healthy; providing the opportunity to taste local produce and specialties; enjoy good meals outside or on the run – at work for example; and even entertain where there is the opportunity.

Culinary Tool Kit

Depending on where you are and what your accommodation and resources are like, a culinary ‘tool kit’ to travel with can be a lifesaver.

A few of these essentials – and any others that are to your own personal taste, can help you make the most of local food that you can make at your home away from home:

  • Salt and pepper – there are some good quality disposable grinders full of the likes of Himalayan salt and organic black pepper available.

  • A small bottle of extra virgin olive oil – perfect for dressing a salad or for dipping with local bakers’ bread.

  • A small, sharp cutting knife and/or a small serrated knife

  • Small wooden chopping board – can be used for presenting cheeses and other snacks you’ve bought too.

  • A reasonable sized plastic container that can be used for mixing up a salad – and for transporting food you’ve made to work with you if you’re away from home, or for taking out for picnics if you’re on holiday.

Staying Local

A visit to a local farmers’ market is always the best place to experience the best of local produce and artisan foods and drinks. There are normally good websites to let you know times and days of the markets in every region. Of course if you like a glass of wine and you’re in an area with vineyards, a visit to the cellar door is always a good experience.

Even the most basic supermarkets offer choices of simple, whole foods – avoid heavily processed or high sugar items ideally - rather, go for any fresh produce available. Fresh, raw vegetables and avocado cut up with some good quality hummus, pesto or other dips from the refrigerated section make a pretty good snack.

Quick, Easy, Healthy and Delicious

For an impromptu meal – an option could be some freshly baked bread, good quality local cheese, olives, fresh tomatoes and salad greens and perhaps some fruit. With these humble ingredients, a very satisfying picnic or simple meal at your accommodation can be produced – no cooking required.

Here’s a simple board of a couple of cheeses, sliced pear and some good, local bread. Some olives or other simple antipasti items would be perfect to add to this. This could be a simple meal for one, or very acceptable offering to friends if they join you for a drink and catch up.

Do you have your own ideas to share?  Please leave a comment below.

Buon appetito!

Nicola

6 Tips For Starting Out As A Locum

6 Tips.png

Ever Thought Of Locum Work?

Prescript is perfectly placed to help you find the best jobs available across Australia. Here are a few handy hints to help you get your ideal locum position as quickly as possible:

1. Update Your CV

Make sure you send us an up to date copy of your CV including details of your most recent place of work and any relevant experience to the type of locum work that you are looking for.

Don’t have time or don’t know where to start? Prescript are experts at creating professional and relevant CVs and would be happy to help you with this.

2. Prime Your Referees

Before we can put you forward for a locum position, we will need to obtain at least two, preferably three, references from consultants that you’ve worked with over the past year. If you’ve worked in more than one speciality over the past year, your most recent supervisor and/or supervisors from the speciality that you want to work as a locum in will be the best to use. Please don’t forget to let your referees know that they’ll be contacted by us for references. In our experience, the best references always come from people who knew that they were going to be used as a referee and knew that we were going to call!

3. Organising Your Paperwork

Paperwork and credentialing requirements vary from hospital to hospital (even within the same health district), and generally, you will have to re-submit paperwork to each new hospital that you work at as a locum (yes, even within the same health district!). Some of this paperwork will need to be tackled on a case by case basis but to make your life easier, get hold of the following now as a minimum:

✔️ Qualifications - Primary Degree and Fellowship

✔️ Copy of driving licence and passport

✔️ AHPRA registration

✔️ Evidence of vaccination against; HIV; Hepatitis B; Hepatitis C; Measles, Mumps & Rubella; Varicella; dTpa; as well as evidence of any TB screening, if applicable *

✔️ Your indemnity insurance certificate *

✔️ A national police check dated within the past three years *

✔️ Any Working With Children Checks (WWCC) that you currently hold (additional checks may be required if you take up a locum assignment in a new state/territory) *

*These are dependent on where you work - talk to Prescript for more information.

Prescript has its own quality standards, called PQS - find out more here.

4. Be Ready For More Paperwork Coming Your Way

With every new locum placement, comes a new credentialing requirement. Having access to a printer and scanner is invaluable. Prescript is also a big fan of electronic signatures and using your mobile phone as a scanner, and we will gladly share our tips and tricks with you to make life easier.

5. Get An Australian Business Number (ABN)

Depending on the hospital that you work at as a locum, you may have the option to invoice as a contractor rather than be paid via the hospital payroll. To do this, you will need your own ABN, which is free of charge and can be done online via the Australian Business Register.

6. Check Your Diary

Look at your schedule and decide when you are going to be available for locum work, taking into account adequate rest days between shifts as well as travel time to/from your locum assignment if it’s interstate. Like the sound of a particular job but not sure of the logistics of how to get there? Prescript can talk you through the best itineraries (as well as suggest things to see and do when you’re not at work!)

How To Take The Headache Out Of Paperwork

Paperwork! For most people, form filling is not high on their enjoyment list. Neither is trying to navigate the various requirements across different States and health services. That’s where we come in.

At Prescript, our aim is to ensure the highest standards with credentialing, customer service and recruitment processes are adhered to. I want to make life easier for the doctors and clients that we work with!

Any doctor who has worked in more than two locations (and that’s most people) will agree that it can be such a pain completing various documents, online checks and making sure everything is still valid in the process. I often have conversations with our doctors about these differing requirements, and I know it is a cause for great frustration.

However, there is some credentialing paperwork that is broadly required across most health services. Because of this we have created our own checklist - the Prescript Quality Standards (PQS).

PQS has three main benefits:

➕ Hospitals, clinics and practices can have peace of mind that each Prescript doctor has met a consistent level of background checks.

➕ Doctors can rely on PQS to help their applications stand out, plus minimise paperwork duplication.

➕ Internally we use PQS to judge when a doctor is ‘job ready’ - only doctors that have met the Prescript Quality Standards are able to start in a new position.

Because all of our clients have their own different, yet overlapping, credentialing, we thought it essential that we can rely on our own foundation of standards.

Prescript Quality Standards (PQS)

What is part of the PQS checklist?

✔️ PQS Prescript Interview Report - with one of our medical recruitment partners

✔️ PQS Registered with Prescript as a candidate

✔️ PQS Answered disclosure questions

✔️ PQS Medical Board Registration checked

✔️ PQS Shared a copy of driving licence and passport

✔️ PQS Provided proof of qualifications - Primary Degree and Fellowship

✔️ PQS CV updated for recent work history

✔️ PQS Right to work checked (citizenship and visas)

✔️ PQS Google keyword search

✔️ PQS Three reference reports (two as a minimum)

What is not part of the PQS checklist?

Working with children checks *

Police clearance reports *

* These are location specific and requested by the hospital, clinic or practice.

What Does This Mean For You?

Removing the headache of paperwork is our key driver - doctors can rely on Prescript to keep admin to the minimum, yet at the same time know that we take quality and standards seriously.

If you’d like to work with us, or simply want to join our network, just connect with Prescript by clicking the button below - we’d love to hear from you!

Prescript Is Four Years Old

Late March marked four years since Prescript opened its doors as medical recruitment specialists, and what a (wonderful) whirlwind it's been!

A lot has changed over the last four years, click below to find out about four of the lessons we’ve learned along the way.

Prescript's Giving Goal

At Prescript, we want to make sure our values flow through everything we do. That’s the reason why we decided to set an annual giving goal through our partnership with the Global Giving Business initiative, B1G1.

Through 2019 and beyond, our BIG goal is to provide 10,000 days of Medical Care to children in the slums of India.

This could not have been made possible without all of your support. By working and engaging with Prescript over the past few months, you have directly impacted Prescript’s Giving Goal and provided medical care to children living in desperate poverty – Thank You.

Prescript Quality Standards

What does PQS stand for?

Prescript Quality Standards. This is our internal checklist to make sure that every doctor we place in a new position has met a consistent level of checks.

Our Prescript Quality Standards - PQS 2.png

Why do we have PQS?

It is because all hospitals and clinics have their own different, yet overlapping credentialing that we thought it essential that we could rely on our own foundation of standards.

Managing all of this and ensuring Prescript doctors start on time takes a lot of organisation. We are incredibly fortunate that the highest standards with credentialing are in-bedded in our everyday activities, led by Stef McLaughlin (Prescript’s Credentialing, Quality and Giving Manager).

Staying Connected As a Team

Every day the team at Prescript is focused on what we do best - helping regional areas find doctors, filling rosters and providing peace of mind. We all care about the work that we do and the impact is has on the regional doctor shortage. These regions are also our communities - Our HQ might be in Sydney, but we are spread far and wide along the coast from the border of NSW/QLD down to Bega Valley in the south, and along to Melbourne.

To stay connected as a team, we get together three times a year to celebrate and acknowledge hard work. We also reflect on how we can provide a better level of service to the doctors, hospitals and practices we partner with.

IMG_7593.JPG

We recently had a fantastic planning day in Sydney. It was great to be able to catch up and discuss achievements from the previous quarter while setting goals and targets for the new one.

Thank you for reading the Prescript Newsletter.

Whether you've been part of the Prescript story for a little or a lot of the way, we are grateful for the opportunity to work with you and look forward to updating you as Prescript grows & expands.

Meet Nadine (Martin) Onto - Prescript’s Senior Recruitment Partner for Psychiatry and O&G

Nadine LI friendly.png
Hello – I’m Nadine - Senior Recruitment Partner for Psychiatry and O&G at Prescript Recruitment.

I focus on connecting O&G and Psychiatry doctors with locum, permanent and fixed-term opportunities. I thought I’d introduce myself and share with you a bit about my experience, medical recruitment career so far and why I love working within this industry.

I have been working in medical recruitment since 2012 and have been able to establish long term and successful partnerships with both clients and candidates during this time. I love being able to make a difference.

What path did you take to get to Senior Recruitment Partner?

I have always been very active and drawn to sport & health which lead me to study Sport Science and Management at university in South Africa. When I moved to Australia in 2012, I wanted to remain closely connected to health & wellbeing, and medical recruitment was a niche that resonated with me.

My recruitment career has predominantly been focused on helping doctors in the general practice setting. I have now transitioned to psychiatry and look forward to assisting Psychiatrists to find locum, permanent and fixed-term positions within Australia and New Zealand.

Quality over quantity is definitely something I focus on. As a company, we won’t just partner with ‘anyone’, and we take our time to provide a bespoke, personalised service.

What are you doing differently for doctors?

I enjoy the holistic approach of helping doctors find not just the right career move but the right fit for them and their family.

I’m passionate about helping doctors find a job that suits their needs and my genuine interest in doctors & communities means I am able to place the right people in the right location.

My focus on quality service, and making sure everything I do is to the highest standard, is what makes me stand out.

What do you enjoy most about working in medical recruitment?

I really enjoy creating meaningful, long-standing relationships with both candidates and clients. I think it’s so valuable getting to know doctors, hospitals and practices, understanding their needs and tailoring my approach to suit these requirements.

Did you know…?

I was born in Johannesburg but spent my childhood in a number of African countries. I’ve been living in Sydney since 2012 and moved to Melbourne earlier this year with my husband and French bulldog Lola. I’ve been lucky enough to travel extensively and experiencing different cities and cultures is very important to me.
Nadine Martin - Prescript 198_Standard.jpg

What do you see as big issues within medical recruitment right now?

The biggest issue that Prescript is helping to solve is the doctor shortage in regional areas. It’s a consistent problem across the whole of Australia and it is why we exist as an agency.

I’m excited to work at Prescript to help make a big difference within those smaller communities across the country.

We hope you enjoyed reading about Nadine. If you’d like to connect with Nadine to discuss Psychiatry and O&G opportunities, just contact her using any of the three options below.
