Brisbane has 2 million residents, making it the third largest city within Australia and an exciting destination to explore. Sydney has its harbour, Melbourne its port and Brisbane has its river. On the north bank of the river is the CBD, with its sky-scraping offices; on the ‘South Bank’ is the artistic centre of Brisbane and famous as the home of the 1988 World Expo. We’ll show you some of our picks on these two sides of the river, plus other areas nearby like Fortitude Valley and New Farm.
Start your day on the South Bank and have breakfast/brunch at Gauge. It opened this year and has a reputation for original, quirky dishes. Gauge has no website, but can be found at 77 Grey Street. From there head to GOMA (Gallery of Modern Art) and see if you can spot any elephants standing on their heads. Stop for a coffee in their ground floor café, which has views of the river and city. Make time to enjoy the parklands on the South Bank and walk along the riverside walkway to see ‘The Wheel of Brisbane’.
Book a river cruise and see the city from the water – some will even take you to a koala sanctuary!
Back on dry-land in the CBD, walk to Queen Street Mall which is full of shops and a fantastic farmers market (perfect for lunch, but it only operates on a Wednesday). For those looking for the most stylish shops, a visit to Queen St Plaza is a must.
James Street is in Fortitude Valley. The hipster heart of Brisbane, full of creative speciality shops including fashion, health & beauty, lifestyle & design. Wander around and see what gifts you can find to take home. Hungry? Try and get into Longtime Restaurant & Bar. Incredibly busy, but it serves fantastic thai food (the chefs have cooked for the British and Thai royal families!).
Head back to the CBD and have a cocktail in the small and intimate Laneway Bar. As the name suggests, it is tucked away and not that easy to find!
Our top picks are:
Ovolo Inchcolm - “distinctly boutique hotel of impeccable style and clandestine character”.
Spicers Balfour Hotel - “Located in the fashionable suburb of New Farm, Spicers Balfour Hotel is an award-winning boutique hotel just minutes from the Brisbane city centre. Step inside this iconic Queenslander and you'll discover a chic and stylish interior.”

Radiologists - Where's your dream location to live and work?
At Prescript, we believe it is extremely important to have a direct understanding of the locations we’re offering when helping radiologists taking steps into a new permanent or long term position.
I visited The Fraser Coast recently to gain a good understanding of the exclusive, permanent job opportunity we are seeking a radiologist for. It was great to get a feel for the location and what life would be like for a radiologist moving there.
The Fraser Coast truly is an absolutely stunning part of Queensland that offers you a delightfully warm climate, pristine beaches and stunning scenery. As well as this, you can easily access more cultural events and activities and enjoy beautiful quality restaurants and cafes.
Most importantly, there is a range of excellent choices for schooling in both the public and private system. For healthy living, there are plenty of sporting facilities, fishing and sailing clubs.
Good to know too, there is very quick access to/from Sydney and Brisbane on a direct flight.
We’ve created the following video about this Fraser Coast Radiologist job opportunity - 👇

Here at Prescript, we are often talking to Radiologists who want to have a bit of a break from their current employment but are not in a position where they want to resign altogether. It’s a tricky situation because they know they are feeling a little flat, want to do something different or just need a break from it all, however, the role they currently have really suits their lifestyle and/or career path.
I was in this position myself back in 2016. I didn’t want to give up the great role I had, but I had been working exceptionally hard, and I strongly desired a decent European trip, longer than the usual four weeks annual leave that was available to me. When my partner and I got the invite to our friends 40th birthday in Northern Italy, that was the catalyst to make it happen. We decided to take a sabbatical from work to spend time travelling through Europe.
From the point of having the leave confirmed, suddenly everything felt exciting as we had so much to look forward to. We decided that rather than hop from city to city, we would visit fewer countries and spend more time in each of them. We put down our personal wish lists and started planning an itinerary that ended up including UK, France, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Spain, Italy, Greek Islands and Croatia.
While overseas we were able to spend quality time with some dear friends who live in some of the places we visited. We also had some friends from Australia join in for parts of our adventure. We hiked in the Swiss Alps, the Pyrenees in Spain and on the steep hills of Cinque Terra in Italy. We had a sommelier take us around the Piedmont wine region. We had a personal tour and tasting at a beautiful prosecco winery an hour from Venice. We ate and ate and ate all the delicious cuisines on offer. We visited art galleries and museums. We caught trains, planes, ferries, buses, and even took on driving a car in peak hour Barcelona (now that was an adventure). We were carefree and invigorated which was just what the doctor ordered.
On returning to Australia, we were constantly asked if we were depressed now we had returned to ‘normal’ life, but we didn’t feel this way at all. Instead, we felt gratitude for the fact that we were able to take time away to have that amazing experience and felt genuinely refreshed, happy and full of life again. It truly was an exceptional experience where we lived life large, saw beautiful places, spent quality time with great friends and had a lot of laughter along the way.
If you’ve been feeling like a sabbatical is in order and perhaps would like to travel yourself but would prefer the financial security of generating income at the same time, please make contact with me as we have numerous options available both here in Australia and abroad.
For example, Teleradiology is a fantastic option if you’d like to travel while continuing your career as a FRANZCR Radiologist, working 7 days on / 7 days off from anywhere in the world.
