Prescript Recruitment is seeking an experienced Rural Generalist for a short locum placement in Julia Creek, North West Queensland.
This is a compact five-day placement in a small rural health service, with weekday clinical hours, on-call responsibilities and remote overnight support.

The Position
Location: Julia Creek Multipurpose Health Service, QLD
Role: Rural Generalist / SMO
Dates: 19–23 October 2026
Rostered hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm
On-call: Monday to Thursday, 5:00pm–8:00am
Rate: Negotiable
Higher rate available for Rural Generalists holding an AST
Travel and accommodation provided
After-hours support is available via My Emergency Doctor from 10:00pm–8:00am, with the onsite doctor contacted as required.

About Julia Creek Health Service
Julia Creek Multipurpose Health Service is a small rural health facility supporting the Julia Creek and surrounding McKinlay Shire community.
The service provides a mix of rural hospital, emergency, general practice and residential aged care services.
The facility has six beds, including four residential aged care beds and two additional rooms, with one primarily used for palliative care.
Much of the clinical work is low-risk ambulatory care, supported by registered nurses and health workers.
Patients requiring a higher level of care can be stabilised locally before transfer to a larger regional facility where required.
For Rural Generalists, this provides the opportunity to use broad clinical skills while working closely with an experienced rural team.
About Julia Creek
Julia Creek is a small outback town in North West Queensland, located on the Flinders Highway between Townsville and Mount Isa.
The town sits in the heart of cattle country and offers the wide-open landscapes and slower pace that many doctors enjoy about rural locum work.
Despite its size, Julia Creek has a strong local community and useful facilities including a swimming pool, water park, gym and sporting facilities.
It is also known for its artesian water and the Julia Creek dunnart, a small native marsupial unique to the region.
For a short locum, it is an opportunity to experience a genuine North West Queensland community without committing to an extended placement.
Getting to Julia Creek
Julia Creek can be accessed by both air and road.
Scheduled regional flights operate into Julia Creek Airport from Townsville and Mount Isa on selected days.
Another common option is to fly into Mount Isa and travel by road to Julia Creek (with the drive taking around three hours).
Prescript will work with you on the most practical travel arrangements for the placement.
What We Require
You will ideally have:
FACRRM and/or FRACGP
Rural Generalist experience
Current AHPRA registration
Appropriate rural and emergency medicine experience
Ability to participate in the on-call roster
Ability to complete required credentialing
AST for the higher-rate position
