Campbell Town, Tasmania
10–17 August 2026
Positioned in Tasmania’s historic Midlands, Campbell Town is approximately 45 minutes from Launceston and an established stopping point between Launceston and Hobart.
This placement will appeal to Rural Generalists who enjoy the character and connection of a smaller community while remaining within comfortable reach of Tasmania’s major northern and southern centres.
Beyond work, the surrounding region offers historic villages, trout fishing, golf, local produce and access to some of Tasmania’s best-known wilderness areas.
Scottsdale, Tasmania
10–17 August 2026
Scottsdale is the regional hub of north-east Tasmania, surrounded by rolling farmland and located approximately one hour from Launceston.
The town provides a genuine rural experience without feeling completely isolated, with established community services and convenient access to some of northern Tasmania’s best attractions.

Smithton, Tasmania
10–15 August 2026
Smithton is the main service centre for Tasmania’s Circular Head region, positioned among rich agricultural country near the island’s rugged north-west coast.
The local medical service supports a broad regional population, making this an opportunity for a Rural Generalist to contribute where versatile clinical skills are genuinely valued.
Outside work, the region offers wild beaches, forests, fishing, local produce and access to some of Tasmania’s most striking and less-travelled landscapes.
Flinders Island, Tasmania
12–14 August 2026
Commencing at 8:00 am
For doctors looking for a memorable short placement, Flinders Island is difficult to match.
Located in the Furneaux Group in Bass Strait, the island is known for its close-knit community, striking granite mountains, white-sand beaches and extraordinary sense of space.
This two-day block provides an opportunity to experience island medicine without needing to commit to a longer rotation. Outside clinical hours, you may have time to discover the island’s beaches, local produce and dramatic natural surroundings.
Walgett, New South Wales
10–17 August 2026
Walgett offers the opportunity to practise purposeful rural medicine in a community where an experienced Rural Generalist can make a meaningful contribution.
Located in northern outback New South Wales, Walgett services a broad and geographically dispersed population and offers exposure to the diversity, autonomy and continuity of care that attract many doctors to rural generalism.
This placement will particularly suit a doctor who is adaptable, culturally respectful and comfortable applying broad general practice and emergency medicine skills in a regional setting.

About You
You will be a capable and adaptable Rural Generalist with the clinical breadth required to work confidently within a rural healthcare environment.
You will require:
Current registration with AHPRA
Fellowship of the RACGP or ACRRM, or other relevant qualifications and experience
Recent Rural Generalist, rural hospital or GP VMO experience
Emergency medicine skills appropriate for rural practice
Relevant emergency medicine certification where required
The ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary rural healthcare team
The ability to satisfy the applicable health service credentialing requirements
Location-specific requirements will be discussed with suitable doctors before submission.
