Meaningful remote medicine—without giving up your weekends in Darwin
Prescript Recruitment is seeking an experienced Rural Generalist or remote GPr for a rewarding locum placement supporting the Wadeye community in the Northern Territory.
Commencing Monday, 24 August 2026, this opportunity offers a highly attractive weekday FIFO arrangement. You will fly from Darwin to Wadeye each Monday, work with the remote primary healthcare team during the week, and return to Darwin on Friday for the weekend.
A four-week placement is preferred, although doctors able to commit to a minimum of three weeks are encouraged to apply.
The Role
You will work within a multidisciplinary remote healthcare team delivering culturally responsive primary care to Aboriginal patients across the lifespan.
The clinical work is expected to be broad and varied, reflecting the realities of remote practice. Presentations may include acute illness, chronic disease, preventive health, child and family health, emergency presentations and the ongoing management of patients who may otherwise face significant barriers to accessing medical care.
Wadeye Primary Health Care Centre provides community-based primary healthcare together with a 24-hour acute and emergency response through its on-call health team. The local service includes doctors, registered nurses and Aboriginal health professionals.
This role is best suited to a doctor who is comfortable working with a high level of clinical independence while contributing collaboratively to an experienced remote health team.
Location and Travel
Wadeye, also known as Port Keats, is one of the Northern Territory’s largest remote Aboriginal communities. It is located approximately 420 kilometres south-west of Darwin on the traditional lands of the Kardu Diminin people.
Murrinh-patha is the principal language spoken within the community, alongside English and several other local languages.
Weekly flights are provided between Darwin and Wadeye, with an approximate flying time of 45 minutes each way.
The roster gives you the opportunity to contribute to a remote community during the working week while returning to Darwin each weekend. Darwin accommodation is provided, allowing you to enjoy the Top End’s dry-season lifestyle, waterfront precincts, outdoor dining and the iconic Mindil Beach Sunset Market between working weeks.

Essential Requirements
Applicants must be able to provide:
Current unrestricted AHPRA medical registration
Recent remote Indigenous health experience within the past two years
A current CV clearly demonstrating relevant remote clinical experience
Current CPD evidence
Current ALS2 certification
Current APLS certification
Current REST certification
Eligibility to satisfy all Northern Territory credentialing and compliance requirements (Prescript will help with this)
Because this is an advanced remote practice position, it is not intended for doctors seeking their first rural or remote placement.
