We’re looking for skilled Family Medicine GPs to bring their expertise across the Tasman and work in some of New Zealand’s most beautiful regions. The Positions
We have exciting locum roles for Australian-trained GPs in two breathtaking locations on New Zealand’s North Island: the Bay of Plenty and the Northland Region. You’ll provide essential healthcare services while experiencing these regions' stunning coastlines, lush forests, and vibrant communities. Work part-time (minimum 6 sessions, ideally 8 ) or full-time, giving you the flexibility to explore these beautiful destinations during your time off.
You will be part of New Zealand's leading and largest medical centre networks. The roles in the two locations are solo GP practices with full nurse and administration support. There will be an induction and orientation for your first week.
Hours: Monday to Friday only; no weekends or after-hours work required.
Dates Available
Start as soon as your registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand is approved. Commit to a minimum of 3 months, with options to extend up to 6 or 12 months for a more immersive experience.
Benefits Provided
Excellent Earnings: Earn between NZD $500-$600 per session or up to NZD $1,200 per day.
Accommodation and Domestic Travel Included: We handle your accommodation and travel, ensuring a smooth transition.
Flexible Schedule: Work part-time or full-time, allowing plenty of time to explore New Zealand’s natural wonders. We would require a minimum of 6 sessions per week, ideally 8 sessions.

Bay of Plenty: Famous for its sunny climate, surf beaches, and the geothermal wonders of Rotorua, the Bay of Plenty is a paradise for adventure seekers and those looking for relaxation. Explore the vibrant city of Tauranga, visit Mount Maunganui for some surfing or hiking, or enjoy a cultural experience in Rotorua's geothermal parks. Fly into Tauranga Airport via direct flights from Auckland or Wellington, or take a short 3-hour drive from Auckland Airport.
Northland Region: Often called the "Winterless North," Northland boasts subtropical beauty, including the stunning Bay of Islands, Ninety Mile Beach, and historic sites like the Waitangi Treaty Grounds. Ideal for diving, fishing, and exploring Maori culture, Northland is rich in both history and natural beauty. You can reach Northland via a 45-minute flight from Auckland to Kerikeri or Whangarei or enjoy a scenic 3-hour drive from Auckland.
How to Get There from Australia: Direct flights are available from Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Adelaide to Auckland. From there, you’re well-connected to the Bay of Plenty and Northland by car or domestic flight.
What We Require From You
Australian graduates with AHPRA General Registration or Specialist Registration
You must hold an Australian primary degree and internship and at least 3+ years of GP experience or FRACGP.
Thanks to the Trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement (TTMRA), the process for Australian-trained doctors to work in New Zealand is streamlined with the MCNZ registration.
