“Make a meaningful impact in a well-supported hospital, while enjoying the lifestyle and warmth of remote Queensland.
”
At Prescript, we believe in placing doctors where they’re needed most — and where they’ll be supported to thrive. Julia Creek Hospital in outback Queensland is one of those places.
This is a locum opportunity for Rural Generalists who want to practise broad, meaningful medicine in a setting that values continuity, compassion, and clinical excellence. It’s also a chance to reconnect with the heart of healthcare — slower-paced, deeply human, and community-centred.
The Opportunity
Julia Creek Multi Purpose Health Service is a small, well-resourced Level 1 facility. You’ll join a capable and welcoming team that works closely to ensure seamless coverage and excellent support for incoming doctors.
You’ll work standard hours with on-call duties across the week, backed by strong telehealth support overnight. The facility includes residential aged care, short-stay inpatient beds, and a local palliative care service.
Role details:
Rural Generalist (FRACGP or FACRRM)
Monday to Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
On-call from 5:00 pm – 8:00 am, Monday to Thursday
Remote emergency support provided from 10:00 pm onwards
Mix of GP, emergency, aged care and palliative
This is a setting where your clinical judgment is trusted, your presence is appreciated, and you’ll be part of a team genuinely committed to rural healthcare.
Dates Available
We’re looking for doctors who are available between 5 May and 29 June 2025.
You can take on the full block or nominate one or more weeks — rosters are flexible and can be tailored to suit your availability.
What’s Included
Prescript provides full concierge-level support, from logistics to credentialing, so you can focus on delivering excellent care.
We’ll arrange:
Comfortable accommodation in town
A fleet car for your stay
Return travel allowance
A seamless onboarding experience through our credentialing team
Ongoing contact and support throughout your placement
The Location
Julia Creek offers the kind of lifestyle that makes rural placements so appealing. With warm, dry weather (32°C in April), red earth sunsets, and a calm pace of life, it’s a place where you can breathe — and reconnect with the core of your profession.
Outside of work, explore artesian baths, visit local attractions like the Punchbowl Waterhole, or meet the endangered Julia Creek Dunnart at the town’s visitor centre. It’s a family-friendly location, with walking trails, parks, and regular Rex flights from Townsville making access simple.
What We’re Looking For
To be considered, you’ll need:
Current specialist registration with AHPRA
FRACGP or FACRRM
Experience in rural or remote settings preferred
A collaborative, community-minded approach to patient care
