Prescript Recruitment, which specialises in placing doctors within regional and remote communities, is offering you an opportunity to provide life-changing care in the heart of Kakadu National Park. This role is your chance to impact Indigenous healthcare while exploring one of Australia’s most awe-inspiring landscapes.

The Position

In partnership with our client’s health service, we are seeking a dedicated GP to join a nurse-led clinic that serves Kakadu’s diverse community. Supported by skilled nursing staff and Aboriginal Health Practitioners, you’ll focus on chronic disease management, specialist referrals, and scheduled patient care. Cruise along the Yellow Water Billabong, spotting abundant birdlife and wildlife, from saltwater crocodiles to water buffalo. For spectacular views, hike up to the lookouts at Nourlangie and Ubirr or take in the cascading beauty of Jim Jim Falls and Twin Falls. Whether you’re into birdwatching, scenic drives, or exploring pristine trails, Kakadu offers an unforgettable backdrop to your locum experience.

  • Minimum commitment: 2-3 weeks.

Benefits Provided

On offer is a generous daily rate of $1800 per day + GST (negotiable based on experience), ensuring consistent income without reliance on billings. You’ll receive comprehensive travel support, with flights and accommodation fully arranged, both in Darwin and on-site. To ensure you’re set up for success, you’ll be provided with paid induction and training before you begin. With day shifts only and no weekends, on-call, or public holiday requirements, you’ll have the flexibility to enjoy everything Kakadu has to offer. Deliver culturally meaningful healthcare where it’s needed most.
— Ken Smith - Prescript

Introduction

At Prescript Recruitment, we place purpose-driven doctors in roles where they can create lasting impact. This is your chance to join our mission in addressing Australia’s regional doctor shortage by providing crucial healthcare services to the Aboriginal community of Doomadgee, located just 140 km from the NT border. Work in a region rich in culture, heritage, and meaning, on the traditional lands of the Gangalidda, Waanyi, Garrawa, and Yunjulla people.

The Position

We’re seeking experienced AMS Locum GPs to join a team delivering culturally appropriate, patient-centered care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. The role is Monday to Friday only—no weekends or after-hours commitments—so you can focus on meaningful, balanced work.

How to Get There

Doomadgee is a remote but accessible location. Flights from Brisbane will take you via Cairns or Mount Isa, with connections to Burketown or nearby hubs. From there, a short drive or connecting charter flight will bring you to Doomadgee. We fully manage all travel logistics, including flights and car hire, ensuring a stress-free journey.

Dates Available

  • Start ASAP – End February 2025 (URGENT DATES)

  • 3 March – 15 August 2025

  • Minimum commitment: 2-3 weeks

  • Plan ahead and secure a rewarding placement on your 2025 calendar.

Benefits Provided

This role offers highly competitive compensation, with an impressive daily rate of $2000 + GST, ensuring that your vital contributions to this community are well-rewarded. We make the journey hassle-free by covering all travel expenses, including flights, car hire, and transport logistics, so you can focus on your work without distractions. You’ll stay in comfortable, self-contained accommodation fully arranged for the duration of your placement, offering convenience and peace of mind. Additionally, you’ll be part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team that’s dedicated to improving regional health outcomes, creating a supportive and enriching work environment.

Experience with Communicare software is essential, as it is the primary tool used in this setting to support efficient patient management. While previous experience in Aboriginal Medical Services (AMS) settings is preferred, we welcome new Fellows eager to contribute to Indigenous healthcare and ready to take on a meaningful, short-term or repeat locum assignment.
