Wow - 200K Days Of Water Given!

10 March - Hootsuite Linkedin size - Meet the team (66).png
Wow - we have reached another HUGE milestone! Two hundred thousand days of access to safe drinking water for rural communities in Ethiopia.

◾️ This is an enormous step towards our giving goal, and it feels incredible to be able to give back to those communities that need it the most.

◾️ For 2020 and beyond, our giving goal is to provide 1 million days of access to clean water to families living in poverty in rural Ethiopia.

◾️ It is with thanks to our doctors, hospitals and practices who have made this happen.

Our Giving Stories

We link our day to day business activities to our giving goal of providing families access to clean water in rural Ethiopia.

When the following things happen at Prescript, we give access to life-saving clean water:

✔️ When a hospital or practice confirms a doctor in a locum or permanent position in regional Australia

✔️ When a doctor refers another doctor to us

✔️ When a doctor registers as a new candidate with Prescript

✔️ When a doctor completes a reference for another doctor

✔️ When a hospital or practice agrees to work with Prescript on a long-term vacancy

About the Program - Tigray Hand-Dug Wells

◾️ The projects we are supporting fund the construction of hand-dug wells in the Ethiopian province of Tigray.

◾️ The program of construction for 2020 is well underway, and the plan is to provide permanent water supplies to 40 villages in Tigray, almost 7000 people.

◾️ These areas have been historically seriously affected during drought periods.

◾️ In the great Ethiopian crisis of 1984-85, many of these villages were deserted as populations moved to displaced camps seeking a means to stay alive.

◾️ Current community and regional government practices in soil and water conservation and environmental restoration have produced an amazing greening of the countryside.

◾️ Our support for clean and reliable domestic water supply is a crucial piece of the survival jigsaw.

◾️ The hydrogeology of this remote region makes for some uncertainty in the siting of wells. Therefore, ongoing collaboration and discussions with international experts who know the area well, play an important role.

Watch the video above to see an example of how people access water in Ethiopia. It made me realise exactly what a difference we can make to communities such as these.

Prescript’s Giving Goals & How Did It All Begin?

10 March - Hootsuite Linkedin size - Meet the team (43).png

Here at Prescript Recruitment, we embed giving in what we do to create a habit of doing good.

For 2020 and beyond, our giving goal is to provide 1 million days of access to clean water to families living in poverty in the Tigray region, a rural and remote part of Ethiopia.

It is with thanks to our doctors, hospitals and practices that we work with who make this all possible.

Back To The Beginning…

How did this all begin?

◾️ After our founder - James Hill - visited rural health communities in the Northern Territory, he was astonished to learn of the chronic doctor shortages and lack of adequate health care. He felt both inspired and compelled to address and act on this widespread, serious healthcare issue among Australian communities.

◾️ This led to the creation of Prescript Recruitment. Prescript are medical recruitment specialists, and we’re known for helping solve the regional doctor shortage in Australia.

◾️ Prescript wanted to make a difference further afield too. Each time we help a doctor with the next step in their career, we also contribute towards improving health outcomes for people living in poverty overseas.

◾️ One successful campaign we are exceptionally proud of was to provide a doctor’s salary in rural-Kenya. We are delighted to share that we contributed a doctor’s salary for an entire year!

◾️ This aligns perfectly with our reason for existing as a company, and we feel honoured and grateful for the opportunity to be a business for good and making a global impact.

Hand-Dug Wells - Tigray

◾️ The projects we are supporting fund the construction of hand-dug wells in the Ethiopian province of Tigray.

◾️ Current community and regional government practices in soil and water conservation and environmental restoration have produced an amazing greening of the countryside.

◾️ Our support for clean and reliable domestic water supply is a key piece of the survival jigsaw being pieced together.

◾️ The hydro-geology of this remote region makes for some uncertainty in the siting of wells. Therefore, ongoing collaboration and discussions with international experts who know the region well play an important role.

How Do I Get Paid As A Locum Doctor?

Hugo Blog - How Get Paid As Dr.png
Hi, I’m Hugo Scales - Finance and Payments Manager at Prescript. I make sure doctors are paid correctly, promptly and smoothly.

Getting paid on time and with the minimum fuss is essential when you are a locum doctor. My role at Prescript is to make sure you can concentrate on your locum position and take away any burden with pay administration.

Along with our hands-on credentialing and logistical support in getting you there, another service, that I believe sets us apart, is ensuring that both our clients (hospitals, clinics and medical practices) and our candidates (consultants, registrars and RMOs) experience speedy and fuss-free processing around getting paid.

Your Payment Options

To some extent, our health service clients (health districts, hospitals and clinics) dictate what process they require when it comes to paying you, but these often come with options.

Paid directly by the health service

Payroll - What You Do and What We Do

➡️ I will confirm the process / weekly rhythm with you in advance.

➡️ Typically you will complete a weekly time-sheet (electronically or sometimes paper-based).

➡️ Have this approved by a Consultant or Head of Department.

➡️ Submit online and/or send a copy to me.

➡️ You get paid!

ℹ️ Most health services have a pay schedule frequency - I will let you know when to expect to be paid.

ℹ️ If your pay is delayed, I will follow on up on your behalf.

Paid directly by the health service

Invoice - What You Do and What We Do

➡️ I will confirm the process / weekly rhythm with you in advance.

➡️ I will ask you about your business structure - sole trader, partnership, company or trust?

➡️ I will check it meets the health service requirement (ℹ️ please note that most health services prefer to deal only with a Company - Pty Ltd or a Trust).

➡️ You may need to provide evidence of business insurances (PI, PL & WC).

➡️ If requested, I can draw up an invoice template that can be used, plus I can draft your weekly invoice for review & approval before sending to the health service.

➡️ You get paid!

ℹ️ We cannot advise which business structure you should choose

ℹ️ If you are unsure which business structure to choose, we recommend you talk to your tax, business or legal adviser

ℹ️ Please note that most health services prefer to deal only with a Company - Pty Ltd or a Trust

ℹ️ You may need to provide evidence of business insurances (PI, PL & WC)

VMoney Web (for NSW Health VMOs) - What You Do and What We Do

➡️ I will confirm the process / weekly rhythm with you in advance.

FAQ

Please note: Prescript cannot provide any financial advice, or advice on business structure, insurances, tax or super.

FAQ - What insurances do I need?

Some health services will provide you with full medical indemnity cover for your locum; others will expect you to hold your own cover. We always recommend that you obtain your own advice about appropriate medical indemnity cover from an insurance provider.

If you are using a business structure for invoicing a health service (or Prescript) directly, you may be asked to provide evidence of General and Professional Liability Insurance, plus Workers Compensation. Again, get advice so you have the right protection in place.

FAQ - Can I invoice as a Sole Trader?

Prescript cannot provide any advice on a business structure. We can pass on the requirements of health services we work with, and many prefer to deal only with a Company - Pty Ltd or a Trust. This means for locum positions at those clients, invoicing as a sole trader is not an option.

Some health services will accept invoices from a Sole Trader (this is becoming less available). There can be tax and super obligations for the health service when you invoice as a sole trader – for example, you may be an employee for superannuation guarantee purposes. This means your daily or hourly rate may be inclusive of super.

FAQ - I Am Visiting From Overseas - Do I Need An Australian Business Structure?

An example is that sometimes Australian/NZ trained doctors living overseas decide to do a one-off locum. They can fill in a “Statement by a supplier not quoting an ABN” form from the ATO, and this means you can locum with less of a bureaucratic burden.

Temporary ABN waivers need to be approved by health services in advance (ask first!) and you may need to provide an accompanying letter from your accountant saying you are meeting your tax obligations in your country of residence.

Prescript9296.jpg
Whatever the options, just as with all the team here, I am at Prescript to facilitate and assist with administrating, processing and ensuring these processes are followed through smoothly and efficiently and make your locum with us a positive experience!!

Are You NSW Health Paperwork Ready?

I’m Marcia Beere - Credentialing and Recruitment Partner at Prescript.

I work in the credentialing team with Stef McLaughlin and Lee Kabigting. Our job is to make sure that you are ready to start work on time in an NSW Health locum.

When you are confirmed for an NSW Health locum, the paperwork needed can seem time-consuming and repetitive, especially if you have worked in an NSW Health location before.

As dry as paperwork sounds, it is something I relish! I used to be a JMO Manager, and I am an expert in guiding new and experienced doctors through all the requirements in a fuss-free manner.

If you are thinking:

Why do I need to do more paperwork? - I did a locum in another NSW LHD recently.

I agree that a lot of the information seems to be duplicated; however, NSW local health districts function quite independently and, therefore, we need to be able to meet each of their needs. This makes theirs and your life easier. No one wants their pay held up if we aren’t ready, right?

I have listed a few top tips of things that you can prepare beforehand, plus a few ideas to prepare you for when we give you that great call of “you are off to XYZ location to cover their locum placement.”

✅Your CV

We will request a CV from you at the time you begin working with us; this is kept confidential, and will not be distributed without your agreement. This is very important to us at Prescript - we want you to know that you are in safe hands. We have a suggested format that is clear and easy for hospitals to review; we can help you with this.

✅References

It may not be necessary to gather references right away, but we will eventually need them to be able to present you for consideration for a locum placement. For NSW, we need to be able to contact three consultant colleagues who have worked with you within the past 12 months. Have a think about who you might ask?

✅NSW WWCC

Working in NSW requires candidates to have an NSW Working with Children Clearance. If you are interstate, it is a two-staged process. An application can be made online, and then you must present in-person to a Service NSW Centre. Hospitals will make allowances for you to attend on arrival or before your first shift to complete this process.

✅National Police Checks

NSW will accept a National Police Check that was completed in the last three years (some health services need one every six months). We will ask you to complete an NSW Health specific Criminal Hospital Statutory Declaration, to declare that nothing has changed since your National Police Check was completed.

✅Mandatory Training

This is critical. You often hear how there was no orientation, no handover, access to certain things wasn’t available. This is the first step to help avoid those scenarios. It is all online via HETI (Health Education and Training Institute) and helps to gain insight into systems within NSW Health. You need to allow at least 2 hours to complete the training.

✅Vaccination requirements

Working in an exposure-prone setting, we want to know that you will be safe and protected. Therefore, there are specific immunisation and vaccination history/evidence that is required for each location. For example, it is important to stay up to date with your Hep B, TB, Flu Shots, Varicella, MMR, dTpa (we will give you the full overview).

✅Second Job Clearance

This is a form you need if you are an NSW Health employee and choosing to locum in another NSW Health LHD. There is a misconception that second job clearance is more about big brother than anything else. Whilst that might seem the case, this isn’t the intent. It is a proactive method used by NSW Health to protect its employees from overworking and is another method of fatigue management.

Prescript - Darlinghurst27507 crop square .jpg
I look forward to assisting you on your next locum, and helping to alleviate any credentialing-related stress or uncertainty that you may feel!
— Marcia Beere

➡️What Happens Next?

When you work with Prescript, you will be contacted by either me, Stef or Lee. We will go through all of the NSW Health paperwork with you - some you can choose to do in advance, some you have to do in advance before we can talk about a specific locum position, and the rest we will help you with once a locum is confirmed.

We try and make everything as straightforward as possible. We embrace technology, so nearly all the forms can be done online or with electronic signatures.

➡️Why choose prescript?

The good news is that we know what we are doing (and don’t just take my word as a former JMO Manager!). Not only is Prescript on the official NSW Health Register of Medical Locum Agencies; we have also undergone a very thorough third-party certification audit by Certex.

I look forward to working with you!

Wow - we have reached another BIG milestone! One hundred and fifty thousand days of access to safe drinking water for rural communities in Ethiopia.

◾️ This is another enormous step towards our giving goal, and it feels incredible to be able to give back to those communities that need it the most.

The projects we are supporting fund the construction of hand-dug wells in the Ethiopian province of Tigray.

Why Is Access To Clean Water So Important?

✔️ The provision of clean and hygienic water will reduce a woman’s average daily water collection time. Without a well, women can spend 3 hours every day, collecting about 20 litres (for her whole family) of polluted water from sources often shared with defecating livestock.

✔️ Effectively reduces children mortality rate. Up to 20% of children under the age of 5 die from water-borne diseases.

✔️ The projects also include training & education in health and sanitation matters as well as family planning.

✔️ A well allows girls to receive a proper education instead of spending their time collecting water.

✔️ The whole family benefit from having access to clean water - meals can be prepared earlier, improved sanitary practices also mean less illness and fewer missed school days.

Being a Business for Good

All this has been made possible by our membership of the global business giving initiative Buy1Give1 (B1G1). It means your choice to work with Prescript ensures something great happens in the world and saves lives as well.

At Prescript we’re known for helping solve the regional doctor shortage in Australia.

Every day we’re focused on two clear outcomes - Helping hospitals find doctors that create departments and clinics that run better, have more capacity and less stress. And placing Doctors in jobs that leave them feeling highly valued, rewarded and, most importantly, enjoying what they do.

We believe that when we get these two crucial things right, it has a huge impact on the regional doctor shortage and the healthcare of communities across Australia.
