Four-Week Aboriginal Health GP Locum – Deliver Care That Matters in Western NSW

1 – 26 September 2025

Western NSW

$1,800 per day

This isn’t just another locum placement. This is an opportunity to connect your skills to real community need, delivering primary care in a culturally grounded health setting built in partnership with local people on Barkindji Country in far western New South Wales.

At Prescript, we specialise in placing doctors where their work has the greatest impact – and we take care of every detail so you can focus entirely on medicine. When you step into this Aboriginal Medical Service (AMS) clinic, you’ll feel the difference immediately: a welcoming environment, a community-first approach, and a team deeply committed to improving health outcomes in their community.

The Role

You’ll be providing holistic primary care in a clinic-only role: no hospital, no after-hours, and no on-call. The focus is on continuity of care – from general consultations and chronic disease management to mental health, child and family health, and visiting specialist clinics.

Clinic Snapshot:

  • Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM (1-hour lunch break)

  • Best Practice software

  • Multidisciplinary support team including a Nurse Manager, Aboriginal Health Practitioners, and registered nurses

  • Bulk-billed, community-first care model

About the Location – Wilcannia, NSW

This placement is based in Wilcannia, a small outback town of deep cultural significance on the Baaka (Darling River). Home to approximately 539 people, around 62% of whom identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, it’s a community with a proud Barkindji identity, sandstone heritage buildings, and strong cultural traditions.

Wilcannia offers a unique lifestyle experience: slower pace, big skies, and a genuine sense of connection to Country. You’ll have the rare opportunity to see the immediate impact of your work in a close-knit community where your skills are valued.

Travel is straightforward – flights to Broken Hill (covered), then a 2-hour road transfer (vehicle provided). Optional weekend accommodation in Broken Hill can also be arranged if you’d like time to rest or explore.
