A role that matters in one of regional NSW’s most important Emergency Departments.
Dubbo Health Service is the major referral centre for communities across the central west, providing specialist emergency care to a wide geographical footprint. With approximately 40,000 presentations each year and referrals from more than 20 surrounding hospitals, the ED plays a crucial role in regional healthcare, and experienced FACEMs remain central to its strength.
This locum offers $3,000/day, flexible ongoing dates, and the opportunity to work within a well-supported, consultant-led team. It’s an environment where senior clinicians are encouraged to lead, teach, and shape the department’s culture, with ACEM and ACRRM trainees forming a core part of the medical workforce.
For FACEMs who want meaningful, high-impact work in a setting that values collaboration and stability, Dubbo is a standout option.
The Role
You’ll join a structured department where FACEMs provide senior decision-making, oversight, and clinical leadership. Shifts follow established patterns (0800–1830, 1400–2400, plus on-call), supported by registrars, registrar ICs and SRMOs who contribute to a well-balanced mix of experience within the team.
The workflow reflects Dubbo’s status as a key regional hub: broad case-mix, clear escalation pathways, and a dependable operational rhythm. The department is committed to high-quality teaching, and senior clinicians play a meaningful role in the supervision of trainees across both ACEM and ACRRM programs.
Why Dubbo Works
A regional city that’s easy to reach
Dubbo is well connected, with QantasLink flights operating daily from Sydney (around one hour), regular regional connections, and straightforward road access for those travelling from across NSW and the ACT. Car hire is available at Dubbo Regional Airport, and local transport options are reliable.
A strong lifestyle offering between shifts
During your time off, the city offers everything needed for a comfortable locum block — good cafés, green spaces and a relaxed pace. The Taronga Western Plains Zoo, Old Dubbo Gaol, and the Macquarie River precinct are local landmarks, while the region’s parks, cycleways and nearby wineries offer plenty to explore. It’s a practical and enjoyable base for work.
