Dear Prescript Doctor,

  Coronavirus Information

The Prescript team are monitoring the situation closely and reviewing the travel of all our doctors based on the relevant advice from the federal, state and territory governments.

If there are any changes to your locum logistics or relocating for a permanent position, we will be in contact. For any doctors, hospitals or practices affected, we are offering flexible options to rebook, replace or postpone.

Travelling within Australia

Federal, state and territory governments are introducing new tailored measures, including specific rules for doctors, in response to new developments. These measures may impact interstate travel.

Before you travel, the Prescript credentialing and recruitment team, will speak to you about the latest government travel requirements, and how this affects your locum or permanent position.

On a personal note, these last few months have been challenging for everyone. We have seen Prescript doctors staffing fever clinics, swapping from their usual roles to go where the need is greatest. Other doctors have volunteered to quarantine to fulfil locum commitments, crossing national and inter-state borders. Most of all, Prescript doctors have shown good humour and understanding with all the changes that have taken place.

A huge thank you from me and the whole team.

How Can Clean Water In Ethiopia Help The Regional Doctor Shortage In Australia?

B1G1 Business For Good.png

Prescript is known for helping solve the regional doctor in Australia. We’re medical recruitment specialists, working with hospitals and practices on their long-term vacancies, so rural and remote communities have the healthcare they deserve.

It is work we love. These last few months have been challenging (for everyone) yet rewarding.

What has this got to do with clean water in Ethiopia? Through the ups and the downs, we have focused on our giving goal – to provide one million days of access to clean water for people living in the Tigray region of Ethiopia. It is a giving goal we share with all our clients (hospitals, departments, and clinics) and with our Prescript doctors. For example, when a doctor completes a reference for another doctor, we donate a month’s access to water, OR when we place a doctor in a locum position, we grant a year’s access to water. We launched our 1 million days goal at the beginning of the year – it has given us something positive to focus on each day, plus something positive to share with you all.

Recently we hit the critical milestone of 100,000 days of clean water. That means 280 people have access to water for a whole year that did not before. One hundred thousand days is also proof that Prescript is making a dent in the regional Australian doctor shortage. The days of water donated equals the efforts of our team, clients, and candidates to come together in providing healthcare beyond our capital cities.

That is how clean water in Ethiopia helps the regional doctor shortage in Australia!

More About Prescript’s Giving Goal

Our goal is to provide one million days of access to clean water through building hand-dug wells. These wells reduce disease and stop women walking miles to collect dirty water from old, open water sources.

Did you know?

  • UNICEF has estimated 42 million people in Ethiopia do not have access to safe water.

  • Women spend an average of 3 hours every day, collecting about 20 litres (for her whole family) of polluted water from sources often shared with defecating livestock.

  • Up to 20% of children under the age of 5 die from water-borne diseases.

Choosing A New Lifestyle As A Doctor - Is It Time For A Tree-Change?

Doctor Career Change

Does it seem to you that there is never a convenient time to:

✔️Change jobs.

✔️Relocate internationally or interstate.

✔️Have a baby.

✔️Get a dog.

✔️Write that book.

✔️Read that book.

✔️Clean out the garage.

✔️Get fit.

✔️Learn a new language.

Life for everyone is busy! We are immersed in a hundred little things each week that clamour for our attention and drain our energy. Even when we know the big things we ought to be doing, that will have the most positive impact on our lives; we still let the little items crowd them out.

I experience this too. My ‘to-do’ list is overflowing with loud tasks, while my big projects that bring joy and will have the most positive impact for Prescript languish on the drawing board!

What has any of this to do with a career sea/tree change? I was reminded in a recent business course of the stone, pebble, sand and water story. If you’ve not heard of this, watch this animated video below:

If you spend all your time & energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are truly important.

In a nutshell, the rock and pebbles represent the priorities in your life. Fill the jar with these first. Sand and water represent the hundreds of little things in your week. If you fill your jar with these first, there would be no room for the rocks and pebbles.

Changing jobs as a doctor is a big rock/pebble. Relocating to a coastal or regional community is another big rock/pebble. You have to identify the position you want with a hospital, department or practice; apply and be interviewed; be offered and negotiate a package; support your family with the move – this could be a new role for your partner, schools for your children; plus find somewhere to live and organise the packing up of your old home – phew!

I have been asked if now is a good time for doctors to think about a sea or tree change? Has the pandemic and border closures stopped permanent recruitment for regional Australia? The answer is that for some doctors, it has given them time to re-examine their priorities (the big rocks!). If you have always wanted to live and work on the Sunshine Coast or build a home in Tassie or buy a small farm in country Victoria, now is the time to make it happen.

Personally, I talked about relocating to Adelaide, from Sydney, for years. It was my big rock, yet I found a million little obstacles (sand/water) to make it not happen. In the early days of Prescript, a reason would be that the business was too small/quiet, then it was that the business was too big/busy. Always next year…. Until I made it my priority. All the little things still got done, but my big rock was not sacrificed. And it’s not just me – all the Prescript team have relocated (for example- Bec to the coast, Marcia to a farm, Nadine to Victoria, Nicola from New Zealand to NSW) – it means we know what’s involved and we care.

If you are a doctor and you want to move your career, talk to the Prescript team as the first step. There may never be a convenient time to make a sea or tree change, but we will do a lot of the hard work for you. Your big rock will become our big rock too!

Prescript’s Giving Update – 100,000 Days Of Water Reached!

10 March - Hootsuite Linkedin size - Meet the team (26).png
Hi - I’m Stef McLaughlin, Credentialing Quality and Giving Manager at Prescript. I am responsible for Prescript’s credentialing and quality management processes and our giving relationship with B1G1.

Wow - we have reached our first BIG milestone!

One hundred thousand days of access to safe drinking water for rural communities in Ethiopia.

◾️ This is such an enormous first step towards our giving goal, and it feels incredible to be able to give back to those communities that need it the most.

◾️ For 2020 and beyond, our giving goal is to provide 1 million days of access to clean water to families living in poverty in rural Ethiopia.

◾️ It is with thanks to our doctors, hospitals and practices who have made this happen.

Our Giving Stories

We link our day to day business activities to our giving goal of providing families access to clean water in rural Ethiopia.

When the following things happen at Prescript, we give access to life-saving clean water:

✔️ When a hospital or practice confirms a doctor in a locum or permanent position in regional Australia

✔️ When a doctor refers another doctor to us

✔️ When a doctor registers as a new candidate with Prescript

✔️ When a doctor completes a reference for another doctor

✔️ When a hospital or practice agrees to work with Prescript on a long-term vacancy

Hand-Dug Wells – Life-Changing!

◾️ The projects we are supporting fund the construction of hand-dug wells in the Ethiopian province of Tigray. These hand-dug village wells were designed in Australia in the 1990s, and the construction is currently carried out by the Ethiopian non-government organisation, the Relief Society of Tigray (REST).

◾️ Before the intervention of this project, whole villages were sharing open and unprotected water with their livestock animals. As a result, the health of the people within these villages was deteriorating, and they were getting very sick. Their sickness prevented them from being able to create a happy life for themselves. Children were unable to attend school, and adults were unable to work and provide for their families.

◾️ UNICEF has stated an estimated 42 million people in Ethiopia still do not have access to safe water. We want to change that.

Happy Fifth Birthday To Us!

Prescript is FIVE.png

Prescript is Five Years Old!

It’s good to have the opportunity to pause and reflect sometimes. Birthdays and anniversaries are often traditional times to take stock and look back. March marks five years since Prescript opened its doors as medical recruitment specialists.

We’re known for solving the regional doctor shortage in Australia, leaving doctors loving what they do and regional communities feeling like they have the best doctors in town.

Here are FIVE things that make Prescript stand out:

Team is Everything

Copy of Our Prescript Quality Standards - PQS (4).png

Every day the team at Prescript is focused on what we do best - helping regional areas find doctors, filling rosters and providing peace of mind.

We’ve now grown to nine (plus Bonnie and Lukas of course!).

We all care about the work that we do and the impact it has on the regional doctor shortage. These regions are also our communities - our HQ might be in Sydney, but we are spread far and wide. I live in Adelaide, Rebecca lives on the NSW/QLD border, Nadine is based in our Melbourne office and Marcia lives near Bega, NSW.

To stay connected as a team, we get together three times a year to celebrate and acknowledge hard work. We also reflect on how we can provide a better level of service to the doctors, hospitals and practices we partner with.

Above and below are some recent Prescript photos - our planning retreat in the Sydney HQ and our celebratory Christmas catch-up.

Copy of Our Prescript Quality Standards - PQS (5).png

We Always Think of the Impact on Patient Care

Every day we’re focused on two clear outcomes - Helping hospitals find doctors that create departments and clinics that run better, have more capacity and less stress. And placing Doctors in jobs that leave them feeling highly valued, rewarded and, most importantly, enjoying what they do.

On occasion, it can be easy to disconnect the recruitment services we provide from patient care. We try and overcome this be visiting as many of the hospitals and clinics as we can - it is only by walking around emergency departments, touring practices, seeing radiology clinics and meeting with medical administration that we realise how crucial recruitment is to their smooth running.

Since 2015 we have visited every State and Territory - been on the tilting train from Bundaberg to Rockhampton; taken a shuttle bus to Noosa; driven to Bunbury and Busselton; bumped around in a 4x4 in the Northern Territory - just some of the adventures to meet Prescript doctors and Prescript clients. Last week, Nadine Onto, was in Launceston and Hobart. This week Rebecca Doyle and Stef McLaughlin were on the Sunshine Coast.

Recruitment Doesn’t Have to be Boring

We are always trying innovative ways to attract doctors to regional areas. Traditional advertising still works, but if you want to persuade doctors to make a sea or tree change then something different is needed to cut through.

Grace Clueit leads our marketing at Prescript, and along with some fantastic external suppliers, has created some memorable campaigns on behalf of our clients.

Here are two examples of recruitment videos for Bendigo and Shepparton.

Doesn’t it make you want to live there?

Importance of Being a Business For Good

At Prescript, we want to make sure our values flow through everything we do. That’s the reason why we decided to set an annual giving goal through our partnership with the Global Giving Business initiative, B1G1.

Prescript believes that every business has the power to change lives by giving back through its everyday business activities.

Each time we help a doctor with the next step in their career, we also contribute towards improving health outcomes for people living in poverty overseas.

For 2020 and beyond, our giving goal is to provide 1 million days of access to clean water for families in Ethiopia.

You’re part of making it happen by working with Prescript. Thank you.

Lights! Camera! Action!

Introducing our new Prescript “Meet the Team” video! We want our doctors and clients to get to know us and what we do. ⬇️

Happy Fifth Birthday, Prescript! Looking forward to the next year ahead.
