We’re supporting a well-established remote health service seeking an experienced Rural Generalist to deliver broad-scope care in a culturally rich Aboriginal community. It’s a short, well-structured block with strong support - and a chance to contribute where your work has real, lasting impact.

The Role

You’ll be working across the full scope of rural medicine, including:

  • Emergency care (24/7 service)

  • General medical and inpatient care

  • Minor procedures

  • Chronic disease management

  • Aged care and renal support

  • Collaboration with allied health teams

This is a true Rural Generalist role - varied, engaging, and clinically rewarding.

Dates & Roster

Dates: 24 April – 30 April 2026

Shift patterns:

  • 08:00 – 18:30

  • 09:30 – 20:00

  • 11:30 – 22:00

On-call: 22:00 – 08:00 (1:2 or 1:3 ratio)
On-call is included in the daily rate, with a balanced and manageable structure.

About the Location

Palm Island (Bwgcolman) is located approximately 65km northeast of Townsville and is home to a proud and vibrant Aboriginal community.

The Joyce Palmer Health Service is the central healthcare hub on the island, providing emergency, inpatient and community-based care. Working here offers a unique perspective on remote medicine and the opportunity to build meaningful connections within the community.

What We’re Looking For

  • FRACGP or FACRRM

  • ALS2 certification

  • Proven experience in rural or remote settings

  • Confidence across emergency and generalist scope

  • AHPRA registration

Additional experience in emergency, remote medicine, or internal medicine is highly regarded.
