Prescript Recruitment is seeking experienced Rural Generalists for locum placements on Christmas Island, providing a mix of general practice, emergency medicine and remote community healthcare.
This is a rare opportunity to work in one of Australia’s most unique remote locations, supporting an island community while enjoying a well-supported GP/ED role with travel, accommodation and on-island transfers arranged.
The Role
As a Rural Generalist locum on Christmas Island, you will work across both general practice clinics and emergency presentations as part of a small medical team.
You will join a team of three Rural Generalists, with experienced nursing support and access to remote retrieval pathways when required.
This role would suit a doctor who enjoys variety, autonomy and meaningful remote medicine.
Your work will include:
General practice clinics, including booked appointments and walk-in presentations
Emergency care, including acute presentations and trauma
Stabilisation and retrieval coordination with RFDS and other remote support services
Chronic disease management and community healthcare
Participation in a 1-in-3 on-call roster
This is an excellent locum for a Rural Generalist, GP/ED doctor, FACRRM, FRACGP with emergency skills, or remote medicine doctor looking for a purposeful placement.

Christmas Island locums are highly sought after because they offer genuine remote medicine, strong community connection and a chance to practise broad-scope rural generalist care in a truly distinctive setting.
What We’re Looking For
To be considered, you will need:
Current AHPRA registration
ALS2 or equivalent
Confidence working across general practice and emergency medicine
Ability to work with autonomy in a remote setting
Strong clinical judgement and communication skills
Previous rural or remote experience is highly valued. This role may suit doctors with experience in rural hospitals, remote communities, Aboriginal Medical Services, GP/ED settings or retrieval-supported environments.
Why Consider Christmas Island?
This is not a standard city GP locum. Christmas Island offers the chance to practise meaningful, broad-scope medicine in a remote Australian community where your skills are genuinely needed.
For the right Rural Generalist, it offers:
Variety across GP, urgent care and emergency presentations
A close-knit island community
A rare remote medicine experience
A supported team environment
A locum placement that feels purposeful, not transactional
