A Tropical Christmas Awaits – Locum GP on Tiwi Island

15 December 2025 – 2 January 2026

Julanimawu, Tiwi Island, NT

$2,574 per day + GST

A Christmas You’ll Never Forget - Trade the city lights for sunsets over the Arafura Sea. This Christmas, experience life and medicine in one of Australia’s most unique and welcoming island communities - Tiwi Island.

You’ll be based at Julanimawu Health Centre, part of NT Health’s remote primary care network. The clinic is well-resourced, with a strong team of Primary Health Care Nurses and Aboriginal Health Practitioners who play a central role in community care and after-hours support. The setting is collaborative, respectful, and deeply connected to Tiwi culture and community.

The Position

This is a two-GP clinic, operating Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm. You’ll work alongside dedicated nurses and Aboriginal Health Practitioners who manage on-call duties after hours — meaning you can truly switch off at the end of each day. It’s the perfect mix of professional purpose and personal recharge time.

Whether you’re looking to make a difference in a remote Aboriginal community or simply want a meaningful locum over the festive season, this opportunity offers both.

Getting There

Reaching Tiwi Island is an adventure in itself — a short, scenic flight from Darwin or a 2½-hour ferry across the Timor Sea. Travel is fully arranged and included, with Prescript managing every step of your journey. Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted by the warm hospitality the Tiwis are famous for.

Life on Tiwi Island

During your downtime, you’ll have the chance to explore the island’s extraordinary natural beauty — from lush rainforest walks to pristine beaches and world-class fishing. The community is small, friendly, and welcoming, especially over the Christmas and New Year period when visiting doctors often become part of the celebrations.

If you’d like to bring your partner, let us know — depending on accommodation availability, this can often be arranged. It’s a unique opportunity to share a tropical island experience together while making a tangible contribution to rural health.
