Prescript Recruitment is proud to be working with the Rural Doctors Workforce Agency (RDWA) — a respected organisation dedicated to building and sustaining strong, accessible healthcare across rural and remote South Australia.
This collaboration goes beyond recruitment. It’s about backing the GPs who keep rural communities running — and offering you the chance to step into well-supported, meaningful locum placements across the state.
RDWA runs an exceptional Locum Relief Program designed to support rural communities and the hardworking doctors who serve them. The program allows permanent GPs to take well-deserved leave, confident their patients are in the care of highly skilled, compassionate professionals. Unlike some other locum placements, these aren’t crisis or high-pressure postings. Instead, they’re well-organised, well-supported, and well-loved practices — simply in need of short-term cover for regular staff breaks.
And by becoming part of the Prescript doctor community, you’re getting first access before these roles are advertised more broadly.
The Position
We’re seeking experienced Locum Rural Generalists for short-term placements across South Australia. These roles are primarily based in GP clinics, with some requiring shared ED on-call coverage.
ED requirements vary by site. Some towns involve fewer hours but a more intense pace when you are called in. Others include 24/7 on-call with minimal overnight disruptions — often just one recall per night. This creates an excellent balance between variety and lifestyle, with clear expectations from the outset.
Where You Might Go
Placements are spread across some of South Australia’s most welcoming rural communities — including the Riverland, Yorke Peninsula, Eyre Peninsula, the Mid-Murray, and Outback regions. Many towns are an easy drive from Adelaide, with some accessible by direct flights.
Each location has its own rhythm — from coastal communities with relaxed beachside charm, to agricultural hubs with rich local histories and a strong sense of community. You’ll enjoy friendly local teams, a slower pace outside the clinic, and a genuine connection to the people you’re supporting.
And if you're based in South Australia, did you know two of the Prescript team are Adelaide-based? You're always welcome to visit our CBD office for a coffee or lunch — we'd love to connect in person.
