250,000 Days Of Water Reached! - Prescript’s Giving Update

250k Days Water.png

We have reached an incredible milestone towards our giving goal of one million days!

Two hundred and fifty thousand days of access to safe drinking water for rural communities in Ethiopia.

◾️ This is another enormous step towards our giving goal, and it feels incredible to be able to give back to those communities that need it the most.

◾️ For 2021 and beyond, our giving goal is to provide 1 million days of access to clean water to families living in poverty in rural Ethiopia.

◾️ It is with thanks to our doctors, hospitals and practices who have made this happen.

We link our day to day business activities to our giving goal of providing families access to clean water in rural Ethiopia.

When the following things happen at Prescript, we give access to life-saving clean water:

✔️ When a hospital or practice confirms a doctor in a locum or permanent position in regional Australia

✔️ When a doctor refers another doctor to us

✔️ When a doctor registers as a new candidate with Prescript

✔️ When a doctor completes a reference for another doctor

✔️ When a hospital or practice agrees to work with Prescript on a long-term vacancy

Hand-Dug Wells – What Is It All About?

◾️ The projects we are supporting fund the construction of hand-dug wells in the Ethiopian province of Tigray.

◾️ During the recent unrest in northern Ethiopia, the project areas have continued to run.

◾️ The water program began during the 1980s civil war and evolved to a point where its low technology techniques were the best for implementation in times of conflict.

◾️ The provision of clean and hygienic water will reduce a woman’s average daily water collection time. Without a well, women can spend 3 hours, every day, collecting about 20 litres (for her whole family) of polluted water from sources often shared with defecating livestock.

◾️ The projects also include training & education in health and sanitation matters as well as family planning.

◾️ The whole family benefit from having access to clean water - meals can be prepared earlier, improved sanitary practices also mean less illness and fewer missed school days.

Watch the video above to see an example of how people access water in Ethiopia. It made me realise exactly what a difference we can make to communities such as these.

Happy Sixth Birthday To Prescript!

Happy Birthday Prescript 6.png

Prescript is Six Years Old!

It’s good to have the opportunity to pause and reflect sometimes. Birthdays and anniversaries are often traditional times to take stock and look back. March marks six years since Prescript opened its doors as medical recruitment specialists.

And - Wow - what a year! It has been a challenging time for everyone.

Here are SIX things jump out from the last year.

Thank You, Everyone

The biggest thank-you goes to our community of Prescript doctors:

★ staffing fever clinics

★ swapping from their usual roles to go where the need is greatest

★ volunteering to quarantine to fulfil locum commitments

★ crossing national and inter-state borders

★ showing good humour and understanding with all the travel changes that have taken place

★ making sure regional communities have the healthcare they need

The health-services we work with have been incredible - each time a border closed, we saw medical administration and management swing into action to put a plan in place to cover shortages. Flights booked, cancelled and rebooked; accommodation reservations unpicked; credentialing paperwork fast-tracked.

A huge well done too for the Prescript Recruitment team - I know that the doctors, hospitals, and practices we partner with have benefited from having Prescript operate at full capacity – the team have been there to manage cancelled locum shifts, change travel logistics, juggle border closures and answer questions. Our recruitment and credentialing teams have worked diligently to support our Prescript doctors and health services – they have focused on the ‘now’ with practical help, and they have focused on the ‘later’ with optimism that better times lie ahead.

Navigating Prescript through the last 12 months has been tough, and I want on a personal note to thank Stef, Nicola, Lee, Marcia, Grace, Kathleen, Max, Hugo, Rebecca and Nadine. We have stuck together and made it through.

In the next 12 months, Prescript is focused on improving our level of service - we want health services and doctors to love working with us (even more) and with that in mind, there are some exciting updates to come!

New Arrivals

Congratulations to Nadine Onto, on the arrival of baby Charlotte! It was wonderful to virtually say hello via zoom.

We are excited to welcome a new recruitment partner - Max Drakeley! Max is based in Melbourne.

New additions to our fur-colleagues - welcome to Stef’s Lukas; Marcia’s Bear and Max’s Monty and Barnaby.

Google and Prescript

We were delighted to share that Google spotlighted Prescript’s mission to help solve the regional doctor shortage - watch the video to learn about Marcia Beere (Prescript’s Recruitment & Credentialing Partner, based in Bega, NSW) and her working relationship with Dr Emily Vink (a GP Obstetrician based in Kununurra, remote Western Australia).

Office Has Reopened

We are now back in the office for part of the week. Embracing a hybrid model of working from home and spending time together in the office.

Zoom has helped us stay connected, across our different locations, however, being together again in person has been great!

I’ve flown to our Sydney HQ and our Melbourne office, from Adelaide and loved seeing the team. It feels like things are returning to some normalcy.

Adelaide Team Trip

unsplash-image-9BFXsGP0HX0.jpg

To stay connected as a team, we get together three times a year to celebrate and acknowledge hard work. We also reflect on how we can provide a better level of service to the doctors, hospitals and practices we partner with.

Next week, the whole Prescript team will be in Adelaide! It will be a chance to have fun, reflect on the past year and plan for our future.

Since 2015 we have visited every State and Territory - been on the tilting train from Bundaberg to Rockhampton; taken a shuttle bus to Noosa; driven to Bunbury and Busselton; bumped around in a 4x4 in the Northern Territory - we can’t wait to have more adventures across regional Australia!

250,000 Days Of Water!

For 2021 and beyond, our giving goal is to provide 1 million days of access to clean water for families in Ethiopia.

In fantastic news, this week we have reached 250,000 days of water! We are now a quarter of the way to our goal.

How? Each time we help a doctor with the next step in their career, we also contribute to the clean water and new wells in the Tigray region.

You’re part of making it happen by working with Prescript. Thank you.

Happy 6th Birthday, Prescript! Looking forward to the next year ahead.

About the Program - Tigray Hand-Dug Wells

◾️ The projects we are supporting fund the construction of hand-dug wells in the Ethiopian province of Tigray.

◾️ The program of construction for 2020 is well underway, and the plan is to provide permanent water supplies to 40 villages in Tigray, almost 7000 people.

◾️ These areas have been historically seriously affected during drought periods.

◾️ In the great Ethiopian crisis of 1984-85, many of these villages were deserted as populations moved to displaced camps seeking a means to stay alive.

◾️ Current community and regional government practices in soil and water conservation and environmental restoration have produced an amazing greening of the countryside.

◾️ Our support for clean and reliable domestic water supply is a crucial piece of the survival jigsaw.

◾️ The hydrogeology of this remote region makes for some uncertainty in the siting of wells. Therefore, ongoing collaboration and discussions with international experts who know the area well, play an important role.

Watch the video above to see an example of how people access water in Ethiopia. It made me realise exactly what a difference we can make to communities such as these.

Prescript’s Giving Goals & How Did It All Begin?

10 March - Hootsuite Linkedin size - Meet the team (43).png

Here at Prescript Recruitment, we embed giving in what we do to create a habit of doing good.

For 2020 and beyond, our giving goal is to provide 1 million days of access to clean water to families living in poverty in the Tigray region, a rural and remote part of Ethiopia.

It is with thanks to our doctors, hospitals and practices that we work with who make this all possible.

Back To The Beginning…

How did this all begin?

◾️ After our founder - James Hill - visited rural health communities in the Northern Territory, he was astonished to learn of the chronic doctor shortages and lack of adequate health care. He felt both inspired and compelled to address and act on this widespread, serious healthcare issue among Australian communities.

◾️ This led to the creation of Prescript Recruitment. Prescript are medical recruitment specialists, and we’re known for helping solve the regional doctor shortage in Australia.

◾️ Prescript wanted to make a difference further afield too. Each time we help a doctor with the next step in their career, we also contribute towards improving health outcomes for people living in poverty overseas.

◾️ One successful campaign we are exceptionally proud of was to provide a doctor’s salary in rural-Kenya. We are delighted to share that we contributed a doctor’s salary for an entire year!

◾️ This aligns perfectly with our reason for existing as a company, and we feel honoured and grateful for the opportunity to be a business for good and making a global impact.

Prescript’s Giving Update – 150,000 Days Of Water Reached!

10 March - Hootsuite Linkedin size - Meet the team (41).png
Wow - we have reached another BIG milestone! One hundred and fifty thousand days of access to safe drinking water for rural communities in Ethiopia.

◾️ This is another enormous step towards our giving goal, and it feels incredible to be able to give back to those communities that need it the most.

◾️ For 2020 and beyond, our giving goal is to provide 1 million days of access to clean water to families living in poverty in rural Ethiopia.

Why Is Access To Clean Water So Important?

✔️ The provision of clean and hygienic water will reduce a woman’s average daily water collection time. Without a well, women can spend 3 hours every day, collecting about 20 litres (for her whole family) of polluted water from sources often shared with defecating livestock.

✔️ Effectively reduces children mortality rate. Up to 20% of children under the age of 5 die from water-borne diseases.

✔️ The projects also include training & education in health and sanitation matters as well as family planning.

✔️ A well allows girls to receive a proper education instead of spending their time collecting water.

✔️ The whole family benefit from having access to clean water - meals can be prepared earlier, improved sanitary practices also mean less illness and fewer missed school days.

Prescript’s Giving Update – 100,000 Days Of Water Reached!

10 March - Hootsuite Linkedin size - Meet the team (26).png
Hi - I’m Stef McLaughlin, Credentialing Quality and Giving Manager at Prescript. I am responsible for Prescript’s credentialing and quality management processes and our giving relationship with B1G1.

Hand-Dug Wells – Life-Changing!

◾️ The projects we are supporting fund the construction of hand-dug wells in the Ethiopian province of Tigray. These hand-dug village wells were designed in Australia in the 1990s, and the construction is currently carried out by the Ethiopian non-government organisation, the Relief Society of Tigray (REST).

◾️ Before the intervention of this project, whole villages were sharing open and unprotected water with their livestock animals. As a result, the health of the people within these villages was deteriorating, and they were getting very sick. Their sickness prevented them from being able to create a happy life for themselves. Children were unable to attend school, and adults were unable to work and provide for their families.

◾️ UNICEF has stated an estimated 42 million people in Ethiopia still do not have access to safe water. We want to change that.

Our Giving Update - Business For Good

10 March - Hootsuite Linkedin size - Meet the team (3).png

Hi - I’m Stef McLaughlin, Credentialing Quality and Giving Manager at Prescript. I am responsible for Prescript’s credentialing and quality management processes and our giving relationship with B1G1.

B1G1 is a social enterprise and non-profit organisation with a mission to create a world full of giving.

Prescript believes that every business has the power to change lives by giving back through its everyday business activities. Each time we help a doctor with the next step in their career, we also contribute towards improving health outcomes for people living in poverty overseas.

For 2020 and beyond, our giving goal is to provide 1 million days of access to clean water for families living in poverty in rural Ethiopia.

What Is The Impact?

It can be hard to comprehend what life is like without access to basic rights such as clean water, and what a difference it can make to the health and lives of so many people.

We are delighted to announce that so far our total amount of days provided of access to life-saving clean water is 81,150 days! 👏

The projects we are supporting fund the construction of hand-dug wells in the Ethiopian province of Tigray, as well as training & education in health and sanitation matters, and family planning.

Without a well, women can spend 3 hours every day, collecting about 20 litres (for her whole family) of polluted water from sources often shared with defecating livestock.

💧 The provision of clean and hygienic water will reduce a woman’s average daily water collection time.

💧 A well allows girls to receive a proper education instead of spending their time collecting water.

💧 The whole family benefit from having access to clean water - meals can be prepared earlier, improved sanitary practices also mean less illness and fewer missed school days.

Up to 20% of children under the age of 5 die from water-borne diseases.

💧 Access to clean water effectively reduces child mortality rate.

💧 And means less illness and fewer missed school days.

A Word From Stef McLaughlin

You’ll be pleased to know we are tracking great with our current goal. It’s incredible being able to see the weekly impacts we are making.

I love how easy it is to work with B1G1 and generally how it makes me feel to know we are collectively making such a difference by simply coming into work.

Working with B1G1 has been the most wonderful experience. We believe that setting a giving goal aligns with Prescript’s values perfectly. It motivates us and helps bring the team together, working towards that BIG goal, and making a BIG impact.

I love this particular project because it has multi-layered impacts. It’s not only about providing clean water to people and the direct health benefits from that - the project also includes training & education in health and sanitation matters as well as family planning. There’s also a direct effect it has on females and bettering their lifestyle and education too.

I can’t wait to keep you all updated on how we are tacking. Thank you for making a difference by choosing to work Prescript.
