Business For Good | Giving Goal Update I April 2019

LINKEDIN FRIENDLY IMAGES - 2019-04-18T120628.802.png

Hello!

I have some exciting news to share! It has been a busy start to the year here at Prescript Recruitment…

As some of you know, part of my role is to manage our partnership with the Global Giving Business initiative, Buy1Give1.

Last year, in 2018, we reached our amazing goal of paying for a doctor’s salary in Western Kenya for an entire year. For 2019, we wanted to think bigger!

Our Impact 2019. What’s Next?

Through 2019 and beyond, our BIG goal is to provide 10,000 days of Medical Care to children in the slums of India.

To date, we have provided: 1,162 days!

This could not have been made possible without all of your support. By working and engaging with Prescript over the past few months, you have directly impacted Prescript’s Giving Goal and provided medical care to children living in desperate poverty – Thank You.

On a personal level, this is incredibly important to me, and I look forward to seeing our contributions grow over the coming months.

To follow our progress, click below to take a look at our Impact page.

It’s More Than Just Business

At Prescript, our focus is to ensure that Australian rural and regional communities have access to the healthcare that they deserve. This motivates me on a day to day basis, and through our involvement with B1G1, we do this on a global level too. Here is some more information on the projects we are supporting with your help.

The provision of medical check-ups and appointments to children living in slums helps to reduce the mortality rate. Millions of children live in terrible conditions and are dying of diseases such as diarrhoea, malaria and rabies which are caused by poor sanitation and overcrowding.

Shikshan Gram Shelter for Homeless Children provides basic living needs and education for over 100 orphaned and homeless Indian children. Through the donations and service paid by volunteers they give hope to the kids, sending them to school and improving their living standards.

The following organisations will be delivering the medical check-ups:

  • Shikshan Gram (shelter for homeless village children)

  • Helping Hands in Service (for slum children of Geeta Nagar Slums)

  • Arts of Living (for slum children of Dharavi)

  • HSNC Board (for educating slum children in their school for under-resourced children)

  • Dreamz Home (for educating and nurturing homeless street children)

  • Cancer Patients Aid Association (for educating and nurturing homeless street children).

Your ongoing support is truly appreciated, and I look forward to giving you our next update!

To be a part of this ongoing commitment, contact Prescript to see how you can contribute through one of our many day-to-day business activities.

Hugo Reveals All - Getting Paid Promptly and Smoothly

LINKEDIN FRIENDLY IMAGES - 2019-03-22T124004.292.png

Hi, I’m Hugo Scales, Finance and Payments Manager at Prescript. I thought I’d share with you a bit about my role and the impact it has on helping the regional doctor shortage in Australia.

Prescript will celebrate four years in April, so we are a relatively new company, but one that has seen significant growth in that time. This growth includes members of the Prescript team of course, and I am a beneficiary of that, I joined the team in September 2017 to assist with finance and payments.

What is a Finance and Payments Manager in the big picture at Prescript Recruitment?

At Prescript, we provide a bespoke time-sheet, invoicing, finance and payroll service to our Doctors. This is just a part of what we offer. What sets us apart from many of the larger recruitment agencies is our personal touch to keep those we look after happy. This high level of service is reflected in all of our financial processes, as well as throughout everything we do at Prescript.

I provide our clients and Doctors with administrative support for billing and invoicing. I also sometimes assist the Doctor if they require support in establishing themselves as Pty Ltd companies in order to invoice the hospitals for their services - which I facilitate for them.

Other hospitals and clinics might pay Doctors directly but may require that their reimbursements are invoiced separately, or that at Prescript, we arrange payments via our payroll service. So, there are various processes that keep me on my toes and give the position variety.

LINKEDIN FRIENDLY IMAGES - 2019-03-22T142041.368.png

Getting Paid

Promptly & Smoothly

But honestly the best variety for me comes from relationships, varied but always interesting relationships that I establish with hospital personnel and our many and varied Doctors, Junior Doctors and Consultants that I communicate with daily. All in the expectation of making their workload more manageable and therefore enjoyable.

It's a great feeling knowing that the part I play can make a big difference to doctors, hospitals and practices across the country. I look forward to watching Prescript grow in the medical recruitment industry and expanding to further cities and countries.

Fruit-Picking, Cell Blocks and Passion(fruits) in Bundaberg | Grace's Story

Grace..png

Prescript is passionate about helping solve the regional doctor shortage in Australia. We thought we would share our stories of living, working or holidaying in different parts of the country.  You'll get to know us a bit better and find out why we love working with doctors and encouraging a sea/tree change!

I'm Grace Clueit - I have been working in Prescript since early 2018 as our 'Marketing Partner'. Here is my story of working in Bundaberg and finding passion(fruit)...

Originally from the United Kingdom, I set sail for Australia in 2014 after a few years of travelling and living in various places prior. After seeing Australia for all of its beauty, and having only explored a mere fragment of it, I decided I needed to stay longer. Being a British backpacker meant I was required to complete 88 days of regional work in order to gain a second-year working holiday visa.

My two friends and I were travelling up the east coast, in a camper-van that broke down every 30 minutes (a story for another day), when we put a coin in charge of our destiny. If the coin landed on heads, we decided that we would head to Bundaberg, if it fell on tails it meant we were heading to Sydney. The coin landed on heads, so we packed up our portable frying pan and made our merry way to Bundaberg.

1004877_10203546977056352_6095896101472895030_n.jpg

A day in the life of a fruit-picker

Working within the fruit picking industry, I experienced the good, the bad and the ugly aspects of farm life. I must admit, I had the most unrealistic image in my head of what farm work would be like; skipping through cornfields in the sunshine while sipping on fresh lemonade made by the farmer’s wife... That dream, unfortunately, came crashing down rather quickly. Anyone who’s ever worked on a farm will know what back-breaking work it is, and the locals knew that better than anyone. I worked in a variety of picking and packing jobs, from Zucchinis to Oranges.

Hostel life proved to be very interesting too. I was living in a hostel called 'Cell Block' which had been converted from an old prison. I was sharing a 10-bed dorm with people from all around the world and from various walks of life. Being with each other day and night and living in each other's pockets means you gain the best (and most bizarre) life and people skills

10422466_10203891226622376_1222703431321905514_n.jpg

I was lucky enough to meet my partner, Scott, in Bundaberg, he wooed me with a passionfruit he had picked on the farm. Scott began playing rugby league for a local team, the South Kolan Sharks, meaning our Sundays consisted of touring around various rugby clubs across the northern district. We were welcomed into the club as ‘the pommy children’ by the locals.

The community welcomed all backpackers with open arms and hearts; some of the ladies I worked with even invited me to visit their homes. They asked their families around and cooked the most delicious homemade food. We sat around the fire and shared stories and marshmallows while looking at the stars. A truly magical experience and one I will not forget in a hurry.

Bundaberg holds a very special place in my heart and has left me with some wonderful memories. I hope you can one day visit too.

More about Bundaberg

Bundaberg is the largest town in the Fraser Coast region and is known for its eponymous dark rum and fruit-farming backpackers. The town is an agricultural centre with some friendly pubs and a decent regional art gallery.

Located 300 kilometres north of Brisbane, the Bundaberg region is the first point of entry to the Southern Great Barrier Reef. This area encompasses a diversity of coastal, island and hinterland areas.

Bundaberg is located just 35 minutes from the beautiful coastal town of Bargara, and only 1 hour and 20 minutes from the stunning coastal city, Hervey Bay. 30 minutes north of the centre is Moore Park with wide, flat beaches, and to the south is the very popular Elliott Heads with a nice beach, rocky foreshore and good fishing. Bundaberg's convenient location means you can easily visit some lovely coastal areas during your time off work.

Canberra is often overlooked by visitors to Australia in favour or Sydney and Melbourne, but it is truly a great location to live and visit. Canberra is a breath of fresh air (quite literally). The planned design in a rural setting makes Canberra the perfect combination of the city and the great outdoors.

Lonely Planet recently named our beloved capital as the third best city to visit in the world! Canberra is finally soaking up the spotlight it deserves, and you can bet that we’re proud as punch to be Canberran right now.

THINGS TO DO AND SEE

The Australian War Memorial – very moving with exhibits from dioramas of battlefields to modern interactive displays

New Parliament House – daily, free guided tours. See the House of Representatives and the Senate and stand on the roof, under the giant flagpole and admire the view.

Galleries – the National Portrait Gallery and the National Gallery of Australia are great to explore and show key moments and people which help tell the story about Australian identity.

The Annual Floriade Festival – flowers (in their thousands), plants, music and market stalls. It gets incredibly busy, but worth going for the atmosphere.

Lake Burley Griffin – cycle around its 35-kilometre perimeter, or if that is too ambitious you put on your trainers and walk/jog certain scenic sections.  From a certain look-out point, you can see Yarralumla, which is the official residence of the Governor-General and where The Queen stays on her visits. You can also enjoy a relaxing boat cruise across the lake, while the tour guide tells you about the interesting history and facts of the surrounds.
