Consultant Neurologist – Tasmania

Consultant Neurologist Tasmania
  • Be part of the transformation and expansion of the region’s Neurology service
  • Charming regional city offers a desirable lifestyle and affordable real estate
  • Very competitive remuneration and relocation package

Where could your career in Neurology take you? Ever considered a move to Tasmania? As the newest addition to this expanding Neurology service, you can make a real impact on the hospital and the community it serves.

About Your Role

Working in a regional area as one of only two specialist Neurologists, you will quickly notice the tangible benefits that your role is providing to the community. Strong teamwork and close professional relationships with colleagues are important. Junior medical officers, an EEG scientist and excellent nursing staff will support you in your role. You will also have regular interaction with the Neurology department at the state’s major referral centre.

With access to facilities such as MRI and neurophysiology equipment including NCS/EMG and EEG, you won’t be disadvantaged by working in a smaller general hospital. ICU, Rehab and Psychiatry services are on site, with stroke thrombolysis available in the ED and clot retrieval via transfer to the state’s tertiary hospital.

Although this is a full-time position, there is also the possibility of part-time appointments.

About The Location

Your new city, like the rest of Tasmania, is a good example of good things coming in small packages and is ideally nestled at the head of a beautiful valley. The city has grown around a pretty port which has a fascinating history and a vibrant modern day culture.

The region’s natural beauty is truly staggering and it has developed a well-deserved reputation for fine wine, excellent food from the local surrounds, and a charming setting in which to enjoy all these good things.

Why Make the Move?

Property prices in the capital cities continue to break records but with beautiful scenery and a real sense of community at your doorstep, now is the perfect time to think differently and make a smart move. Affordable daily flights mean that the mainland is always within easy reach.

Many doctors who relocate to Tasmania advance rapidly in their careers as they can expand and develop their management and specialist clinical skills. Looking for your first Consultant job? Or perhaps you want to get out of the rat race and slow down the pace a bit? Either way, this could be your ideal next step.

A generous relocation and remuneration package is on offer, including: mobile phone and car allowance; continuing professional development allowance; private practice top-up scheme; generous sabbatical, professional development and long service leave entitlements.

About You

To be able to apply for this position, you must hold FRACP or equivalent, be eligible to apply for registration with AHPRA and be able to demonstrate professional competence as a Consultant Neurologist. A passion for regional healthcare is also essential in order to be considered for this role.

Unsure about your eligibility for the job? Send through a copy of your current CV and we would be happy to advise you.

Sound Interesting?

With its combination of a friendly team culture, extensive professional development opportunities and a focus on work-life balance, you’ll no doubt want to get all the details about this great position.

Please note: locum Neurologist cover is required at this hospital until we appoint to the position. If you already hold FRACP and specialist registration with AHPRA, why not “try before you buy” with a short-term locum assignment!

Prescript Supports Marriage Equality

AME Business Support Social Media Meme.jpg

AN OPEN LETTER FROM AUSTRALIAN LOCAL BUSINESS OWNERS IN SUPPORT OF MARRIAGE EQUALITY

We, local business owners from across Australia, write to express our support for marriage equality.

We recognise that diversity makes workplaces stronger and more successful. We support the right of our lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer (LGBTIQ) employees to work and live in environments free of prejudice and discrimination, enjoying the essential freedoms experienced by other employees and the broader community.

We believe that individual rights and liberties are critically important. They are essential in the creation of a healthy, harmonious and open society. An equitable society, free of discrimination, allows all employees to function at their best. This has obvious benefits for small businesses. Australia, a nation with a robust democratic tradition, would also benefit greatly from allowing all its citizens to be treated equally.

The Australian people are increasingly supportive of marriage equality, with a recent study showing 72 per cent believe same-sex couples should be allowed to marry. We agree. Globally, over 20 countries have passed laws to allow same-sex marriage, including the United States of America, Ireland, New Zealand, Canada and Great Britain – which did so with lower support for marriage equality than Australia is seeing right now. Times have changed.

Not only is marriage equality the only truly fair option, but it is also a sound economic option, given that a happy workforce is a productive one. To remain competitive, and to attract top talent from around the world, organisations – and nations – must create a fair and respectful environment for all.

Equality in the workplace works; Discrimination does not.

We support the right for all our employees to have equal opportunities in life. We therefore support marriage equality.

Sincerely,

James Hill

ED Tasmania.png

Prescript Recruitment is helping Tasmanian hospitals get the Emergency locum cover they deserve.

We are working alongside Launceston General Hospital and North West Regional Tasmania (Burnie and Mersey) to find them critical locum FACEM and Registrar Emergency cover for the upcoming months.

Doctors enjoy working there as they pay some of the best rates across Australia and offer a great locum experience. Listed below is the current locum cover needed:

The ED is a 43-bed unit that sees 45,000 patients per annum with 21% inpatient admissions, and 20% paediatric presentations. The ED sees a broad case mix including major trauma.

North-West Regional (Burnie and Mersey)

The two hospitals combined, service a population of approximately 116,000 and receive 70 presentations per day with a 20-25% admission rate. NWR-Burnie acts as the main trauma centre for the North-West region taking referrals from Mersey.

  • ED Consultant - Roster soon to be released for shifts from 04 September - 03 October. $2500 per shifts plus super.
  • ED CMO - 10 - 12 Sep - the increased rate of $1600 per shift plus super applies to these shifts. All future shifts paid at the usual rate of $1450 plus super.

7 Proven Stress Release Techniques for Doctors

7 Proven Stress Release Techniques for Doctors.png

As doctors in the field, we all know that the job can get stressful. Hospitals have you running from one hospital wing to the next with people’s lives in your hands. If you work in a practice, you’re dealing with a long list of sick patients with no end in sight.

A doctor’s health is just as important as the health of their patients. If stress is dictating your work ethic, it’s a good idea to consider using these seven stress release techniques to keep you healthy on the job.

1.    Meditate

A few minutes of meditation is an excellent way to get your mind back on track and to centre yourself. The best part is that you can do it anywhere. You can do it sitting, standing, or lying down - whichever is most comfortable.

It’s best to conduct a full body scan when you meditate to have a full sense of how your body and mind is handling everything. To do this, you need to shut out everything around you and focus on each part of your body starting from your toes all the way up to your head. It’ll take a while to get used to at first, so no worries if you have trouble focusing the first couple times.

2.    Don’t Eat at Your Desk

Take breaks away from where you work. That includes your desk, the office, the department or the reception area. This doesn’t mean you have to eat out at a cafe every day. However, you can go off and eat your lunch someplace where you’re least likely to think about work. It’s even better if you can manage to eat with a close co-worker or friend, and talk about non-work-related subjects.

3.    Exercise

When you’re at work, it can be hard to get in a moment of serious exercise. But when you can, it’s perfect for getting your thoughts focused on something else and re-energizing your body and mind.

It doesn’t have to be anything crazy. You could do a quick walk outside or even dance to some music in your office during a break (make sure you close the blinds first!). Any simple activity is all you need release some built-up tension.

4.    Be Positive (Laugh)

Staying positive is another great stress reliever for doctors, especially in an environment of sick patients who already aren’t in high spirits. The best way to keep a positive mindset is with humour and laughing. We advise only using humour as the situation dictates it, but if you are just with colleagues, a good laugh will bring everyone’s moods up.

5.    Eat Healthy Snacks

The stress makes it tempting to go for comfort foods, but it’s better if you can stay away from the doughnuts and sweets. Instead, eat high energy foods like fruits and nuts that you know will keep you healthy and active.

6.    Say “No” More Often

Learn your limits and say “no” when you know you aren’t at your best. Depending on your colleagues, you might be able to ask for help. Overwork does not make the best work.

7.    Leave Work at the Workplace

And finally, keep all the stress and worries of work at the workplace. This isn’t easy, especially after a hard and potentially traumatic day at work. So take it one day at a time and try to spend off-time engaged in fun activities with the people you love.
