About Jo Weaver

Having worked with many of the team members in my previous role, they recognised my skills and experience in the health field and thought that I could bring valuable knowledge and tools to the organisation. It’s a pleasure to be a part of the Prescript team.

I am a dedicated recruitment professional with an extensive background in the healthcare industry. I began my career at a sole-doctor GP practice and during my 17 years there, I helped grow the practice to nine staff members, including four doctors, four part-time receptionists, and myself. Seeking to broaden my knowledge, I then transitioned to Medical Workforce at a small rural public hospital where I enjoyed building relationships with clinical and non-clinical staff.

My experience working with hospitals and practices enables me to put myself in both health services and doctors’ shoes and truly understand their recruitment needs from their perspective.

Professionally, I am driven by contributing 100% of the time, doing the very best I can to make doctors feel happy and fulfilled in their positions. Personally, my driving force is family. I am there to support them, be involved, nurture, and watch them grow.

In my role, I am passionate about achieving good outcomes, placing doctors in vacant roles, building relationships with medical professionals, and filling organisational roster gaps with locums. In doing so, I hope to contribute to the Prescript’s growth, success, and our mission of solving the regional doctor shortage in Australia.

Outside of work, I enjoy gardening, growing my own veggies, cooking, and trying new recipes. I am also an avid reader of murder/crime mysteries.

Please feel free to reach out to say hi or if you'd like to update me on your current locum availability. For any VIC-based doctors, you're always welcome to pop in to see me at the Melbourne office for a coffee - it would be great to see you in-person!

About Jason Ahmad

I’m Jason Ahmad – Senior Radiology Recruitment Partner at Prescript. I have worked in a number of health-related fields; however, medical recruitment has been the most enjoyable. I have more than 20 years of experience in areas such as Pathology, Medical Indemnity and GP Recruitment. This broad knowledge base allows me to understand the challenges faced by those in our field and therefore find solutions that often create enduring positive outcomes.

I am driven professionally by being able to create positive and meaningful health outcomes in rural and regional communities. It is immensely satisfying helping practices and hospitals find the right doctor for their permanent and locum positions, and I pride myself on finding optimal outcomes that balance doctor needs with practice requirements. Every time I make a placement, we are one step closer to solving the regional doctor shortage.

I see many opportunities for growth in the medical industry. I am particularly interested in seeing the barriers faced by International Medical Graduates lowered to facilitate their registration with the Australian Medical Board. As a cohort, they offer a very real solution to the enduring rural workforce shortage. I feel as a country, we have the resources and technology to do this without compromising patient safety.

Outside of work, I’m personally driven to encourage and support my two sons whose development are my greatest aspiration. Aside from a two-year stay in Melbourne, I have lived my entire life in Adelaide. I enjoy being outdoors when I can, and love a game of pool, and watching the cricket or football; especially at a live match. I have three cats and a dog who are sources of endless comfort and, at times, amusement.

About Mel Houston

Hi, I'm Melissa Houston; I am one of the Senior Recruitment Partners at Prescript Recruitment, working with rural generalists and emergency medicine doctors across metro and regional Australia.

My experience covers over a decade of medical recruitment, specialising in senior doctors and solving the healthcare shortage.

I am an expert in working closely with hospitals, departments, and clinics to fill their critical vacancies. My success has included roster management, executive search projects and in-depth relationship building with locum doctors.

I love to work hard whilst injecting humour and fun into my day-to-day activities. I really enjoy meeting clients and doctors; as it stands, I think I've ticked off 100 hospitals that I have visited, and that is probably only touching the surface. I believe it's integral to matching doctors’ and clients’ needs and helps me better understand doctors' new roles.

Outside of work, I love spending time with my daughter and family. I'm a water baby at heart, so you'll often find me out on our family boat - sailing the beautiful waters of the Mornington Peninsula (where I live!).

Inside Story - Celebrating a Unique Rural Generalist Locum Experience in The Kimberleys

Introducing the remarkable Dr Shahab Siddique, an experienced Rural Generalist who partnered with Prescript to discover extraordinary regional and rural GP locum opportunities.

Excited to delve into the depths of Australia's vibrant history, with a particular fascination for ancient Aboriginal heritage and rare wildlife encounters, Dr Siddique sought opportunities that would grant him the chance to explore and connect with the country's rich cultural tapestry.

Dr Siddique’s Requirements and Prescript's Tailored Search:

Max Drakeley (Prescript’s Senior Recruitment Partner for GPs) has a wealth of knowledge and expertise in helping GPs find their ideal opportunities. He jumped at the opportunity to design a tailored search for Dr Siddique that would best suit his clinical & lifestyle needs and preferences.

Max was able to connect him with exciting new positions at various health services, allowing him to try different locations and decide where to be based for his next experience.

Max suggested the spectacular Kimberleys, which provided Shahab with the opportunity to work in a stunning location with high daily rates and plenty of scope for adventure. The Kimberleys were also in great need of locums, making it a perfect place for Dr Siddique to make a significant difference in rural communities.

The Kimberleys: An Ideal Opportunity for Dr Siddique:

Dr Siddique embraced the opportunity, providing vital medical services across Western Australia and supporting various health services in the Pilbara and the Kimberleys. He quickly fell in love with the Kimberleys; his presence was highly appreciated by health services, and he received a very warm welcome from the local community.

For Dr Siddique, the Kimberleys was a perfect fit, offering a plethora of possibilities for his family to enjoy. His wife and children loved the area's stunning landscapes, friendly locals, and the chance to explore new locations.

During his time off, Dr Siddique and his family enjoyed a range of activities, from swimming in crystal clear waters to hiking through stunning national parks. They discovered must-see locations, including the breathtaking Cable Beach and the world-famous Horizontal Falls.

We were delighted to receive these images from Dr Siddique, capturing his experiences:

Dr Siddique’s work in the Kimberleys made a significant difference, earning him repeated requests from health services in the area. He has become an integral part of the community, making a positive impact both professionally and personally.

Dr Siddique said, "I was faced with many challenges (including medical skills as well as logistically) which I was able to come out on top due to my experience in regional Australia as a locum, as well as through support of people like Max and Marcia."

When asked about why he liked the Kimberleys and if there were any particular highlights or benefits, Dr Shahab shared:

"The landscape of the WA coast is remarkable, the people are honest and genuine. We have made lifelong friends during our time in regional Australia."

He added, "Exceptional services are available in many regions of Australia. There are some areas that could do with more, but in general, the healthcare is incredible with highly skilled and passionate hospital staff."

At Prescript, we are proud to have played a role in connecting Dr Siddique with a location that suits his needs perfectly. We wish him and his family continued success and many more unforgettable experiences in the beautiful Kimberleys and beyond!
