With the implementation of the single employer pilot training model, Tasmania is becoming an attractive option again for Rural Generalists and GPs with a remote primary care interest.
For thrill-seekers and nature lovers, an exciting opportunity has presented itself in Smithton, North-West of Devonport and the gateway to the Tarkine Wilderness.
With increased rates of $2800 per day for an urgent block, and more opportunities throughout the year, now is the time to make inroads in this community-focussed practice whilst providing on-call services for the small local district hospital.
Smithton is a charming town that combines natural beauty, historical significance, and a close-knit community. During your downtime, whether you're interested in exploring the wilderness, enjoying coastal activities, or immersing yourself in the local culture, Smithton offers a memorable experience for your next locum opportunity.
The Position
Working alongside at least one other GP, you will be providing primary care coverage to their 4000 residents whilst participating in a shared on-call roster for the small 12-bed district hospital.
The competitive daily rate is independent of the work you are doing, meaning even standard clinic days in the practice are paid at a set daily rate up to $2800pd. Smithton is an industrial town attractive to adventure tourists (even in winter), so you will see a variety of patients during your locum blocks.
Importantly, short-term locum opportunities are available here, with 5-7 day locums being the norm. A perfect break in practice if you have never experienced working in a small Tasmanian town.
