Permanent DMS Role | Strategic Leadership by the Coast

If you’re a senior medical leader ready for your next purposeful move, this opportunity leaves a legacy. Prescript Recruitment is proud to work with Portland District Health (PDH) in regional Victoria to find their next Director of Medical Services—a critical leadership role in a community that relies on your expertise.

As specialists in permanent, locum and telehealth placements across regional Australia, we understand what matters most to doctors making a move like this: professional impact, lifestyle, and support. This is more than a job—it’s a role shaping how healthcare is delivered for an entire region.

The Position

As DMS, you’ll join the Executive Team at PDH and provide trusted clinical leadership across the health service. You’ll guide service delivery, strengthen clinical governance frameworks, and support the development of a credentialed, sustainable workforce.

The role is equal parts strategic and operational—ideal for a leader who understands that systems create safety, and relationships build trust. You’ll work closely with the CEO and Board to deliver on PDH’s strategic plan, while collaborating across the region to improve access, quality, and innovation in healthcare delivery.

Dates Available

This is a permanent, full-time leadership role based in Portland, Victoria. The start date is flexible for the right candidate. (Ask about possible locum dates that are available too.)

About Portland

Located in south-west Victoria, approximately 360 km west of Melbourne, Portland is the state's oldest European settlement. Nestled along the stunning Great Ocean Road, the city offers natural beauty and rich history. Enjoy rugged coastal landscapes, pristine beaches, and a vibrant community atmosphere.

The cultural scene is vibrant and grassroots-led, with community organisations supporting local artists, musicians, and writers. Regular performances, exhibitions, and festivals bring the city together and foster a strong sense of belonging.

Portland is also an outdoor lover’s haven. It offers seal-spotting at Cape Bridgewater, long coastal walks on the Great South West Walk, and access to the Budj Bim Cultural Landscape, a UNESCO World Heritage site that showcases one of the world’s oldest aquaculture systems.

With quality schools, affordable housing, and a relaxed pace of life, Portland is ideal for those seeking meaningful work in a community-focused environment, without sacrificing lifestyle.

What’s on Offer

  • Executive influence: A senior leadership role with strategic and operational oversight

  • Attractive remuneration: Competitive salary package aligned to the Health Services Victoria (HSV) framework

  • Regional lifestyle: Portland offers a unique coastal setting, a strong sense of community, and a relaxed pace of life

  • Career-defining opportunity: The chance to lead transformative projects and make a tangible impact on how care is delivered

  • Supportive team culture: Join a values-driven executive and clinical team with a clear commitment to excellence

  • Affordable living: With access to quality housing and strong schooling options, this is a great move for families or those seeking space, balance and connection

What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking a DMS with leadership capability, vision, and a genuine commitment to improving healthcare in regional communities.

To be considered, you’ll need:

  • Current AHPRA registration

  • Fellowship with RACMA, or progress towards Fellowship and/or relevant postgraduate qualifications in health management

  • Demonstrated experience in senior medical leadership within public health

  • A sound understanding of clinical governance, medico-legal matters, and relevant health legislation

  • Strong interpersonal skills, capable of leading clinical teams, working across disciplines, and building trust in a regional context
