Telehealth has changed how patients can access healthcare, and its increased use means there are great opportunities for Geriatricians to change how they work too.
If you’ve been hoping to find an alternate working environment that better suits your lifestyle, this may be the complimentary service that can work well with your existing locum and permanent work arrangements, or this could be a transformative new job you decide to do full time!
Complete flexibility with days of the week (Monday to Friday) and times for work:
★ Pick up work before and after your existing shifts (seeing a few patients a day)
★ Block out a day a week or a session a week to see if this suits your schedule
★ Fit in with school hours, hobbies, and save yourself commuting and travel time!
The Position
It’s no secret there are major medicine subspecialty shortages in regional and rural Australia.
This health service is a doctor-led health provider, and has an established network of patients on waiting lists across Australia - so the demand is there if you are ready to help and make a huge impact on regional and rural communities in a new way! Their care model is unique and provides optimal care to residents, the home, and family.
Patients that are appropriate for a telehealth consultation will be directed to you for consultations. This means you may see a portion of your typical range of cases. Procedural patients or highly complex cases will still require in-person assessment for quality care. The Geriatrician takes over the role of primary care provider and manages the day-to-day clinical needs of the resident. GP is available to undertake face-to-face assessments, as required
You will have access to a team of medical administration booking in appointments for you based on your scheduling preferences. Nurses may also be available in person with the patient, particularly with vulnerable populations and in more complex situations.
Dates Available
➞ This option is available on a long-term basis, this health service provider is looking for ongoing commitment, but on locum rates! You are in the driver’s seat to decide how and when and what patients you want to see.
➞ As little as a 3-hour session per week or more as you see fit to increase.
➞ Monday to Friday only.
The Benefits
★ $330 per hour, or $1000 per session (3 hrs)

★ Work from the comfort of your own home
★ Tax benefits for working from home! (Refer to ATO website)

About Mel Houston
Hi, I'm Melissa Houston; I am one of the Senior Recruitment Partners at Prescript Recruitment, working with rural generalists and emergency medicine doctors across metro and regional Australia.
My experience covers over a decade of medical recruitment, specialising in senior doctors and solving the healthcare shortage.
I am an expert in working closely with hospitals, departments, and clinics to fill their critical vacancies. My success has included roster management, executive search projects and in-depth relationship building with locum doctors.
I love to work hard whilst injecting humour and fun into my day-to-day activities. I really enjoy meeting clients and doctors; as it stands, I think I've ticked off 100 hospitals that I have visited, and that is probably only touching the surface. I believe it's integral to matching doctors’ and clients’ needs and helps me better understand doctors' new roles.
Outside of work, I love spending time with my daughter and family. I'm a water baby at heart, so you'll often find me out on our family boat - sailing the beautiful waters of the Mornington Peninsula (where I live!).
