Psychiatrists, have you considered a locum in Newcastle? Prescript has dates from late August to late October 2020. There are two positions available - in the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service, and the Psychiatric Emergency Service.
Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) - Monday 31 August – Friday 02 October 2020
◾️ You will be supported by another full-time Consultant, 3 Registrars and a supportive multidisciplinary team.
◾️ The unit provides specialist mental health care and treatment to children and young people presenting with acute mental health issues.
◾️ The 12-bed unit, located in the hospital, receives admissions mainly from the local district.
◾️ The unit allows the opportunity for intensive, multi-faceted assessments and care planning on a continuum of mental health care.
◾️ It allows a comprehensive assessment involving the young person, the family and systems around the young person.
◾️ The unit offers short term stabilisation and as an adjunct treatment to community-based care using a strength-based approach to address multiple risk factors and wrap services around the young person and the family to create an environment in the community that is conducive to recovery.
Psychiatric Emergency Service (PES) - Monday 31 August – Friday 30 October 2020
◾️ You will be responsible for the management of patients in the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) which has eight beds as well as the Psychiatric Emergency Care Centre (PECC) which has four short-stay beds for patients presenting to emergency.
◾️ You will be supported by registrars in this role and will also need to support them with acute management of patients and in generating management plans. This involves either discharge with follow up arranged or admitting the patient to hospital.
◾️ This is a 24-hour service providing psychiatric assessment and treatment for people with a serious mental illness.
◾️ It is a busy unit that takes patients who self-present, come with community mental health staff, are referred from the adjacent hospital emergency department or are brought in by emergency services.
◾️ Medical support (a rapid response) is adjacent to nearby hospital.
