Rural Generalists - Perfectly Balanced GP + Shared ED Workload - Temora, NSW
Since an innovative Rural Generalist training model was implemented across Murrumbidgee in 2020, it has emerged as one of the best health services in NSW (and wider Australia) to provide GP and hospital coverage. Prescript have so far provided locum doctors across 13 of their regional and rural sites, and we consistently receive excellent feedback on the work environments, locations, remuneration and provisions to locums – we’re proud to have such a close relationship with their health services managers and wider workforce team.
We’re now helping Temora Health Service find committed Rural Generalists to fill gaps in their clinic & hospital roster during April, May, September and October 2023.
This is one of the only sites in the region where you can provide locum services both in a GP practice and the nearby hospital – and with shared hospital/on-call but a guaranteed (highly competitive) daily rate for all working days – it’s an excellent opportunity to maximise your income over extended blocks without overstretching yourself.
Temora is a rural town with a rich heritage and country lifestyle, it's the perfect place to experience the true essence of Australian country living.
The Position
You will be situated primarily in one of two local GP practices, providing primary care coverage between 9am-5:30pm to the local community. Along with 6 other local GP VMOs, you will also be rostered on-call for the hospital emergency department and inpatient ward. Typically, on-call is shared 1:3 or 1:4, allowing you plenty of rest between shifts in the hospital.
When on-call for the hospital, you will complete a ward round in the morning before commencing at the GP practice, and then be on hand for any Cat 1-3 ED presentations or inpatient follow-up during the day. Nursing staff in the hospital are very experienced and will direct non-urgent presentations to the GP practice, as to not disturb GP appointments unnecessarily. Between 6pm-8am, you will be on-call for Cat 1-3 presentations only – VRGS can be deployed to assist afterhours if necessary.
